Silent Hill is like The Adams Family. Resident Evil is like The Munsters. See?
Graphics, sure.. RE2 is from the previous generation.
Sound design is also stellar in SH2 and above what RE2 did.
But that's it. RE2 remake is simply a better game hands down. It always will be.
Myth - Original RE games were scary
I owned RE1 and RE2 and they were never as scary as Silent Hill 1 (and certainly not SH2). Capcom had and still has much better level designs that aren't the cliche dilapidated pits of death and destruction. The mansion, police dept, castle, downtown raccoon city, village, etc are all way more enjoyable to play because they aren't going for the most scary vibes.
Can also beat RE2 in about an hour.... SH2 is superior
Both titles claim to be Survival Horror RE2 is sort of scary the very first time through it, but low replay ability other than speed running. SH2 also makes you think in the end. Totally different experience I would compare Evil Within closer than RE
Resident Evil had better marketing back in the day and imprinted on more people this is why it is hailed today as the better game.
I'm not sure how I feel about that, I really like the Resident Evil 1 approach where melee is not a viable option and ammunition is scarce (plus the limited inventory). I think it adds to the tension because you can't kill every single zombie, but at some point you're running low on ammo so you have to make a choice between moving forward and hope that you'll find some more, or turn back and hope you'll manage to reach the storage box without getting bitten by those zombies you left on the way.
Resident Evil always prioritized gameplay and resource management whereas silent hill has always prioritized atmosphere and story. They're both survival horror yes, but definitely apples and oranges.
One may be better to you, but not to somebody else.
RE1 Remake and RE4 pretty much set the gold standard on "atmosphere". But something tells me that you prefer the atmosphere of RE7 and RE Revelations 2.
Atmosphere is just your opinion man.
Silent Hill 2 Remake is truly a horror game. It can scare you just by wandering around in the darkness, as it has atmosphere.
Resident Evil has no atmosphere.
Can only like one unfortunately. The cops will arrest you if you like both.
Resident evil puzzles are insultingly easy. Silent Hill puzzles actually make you think and respect your intelligence unlike RE which assumes you are a toddler with their puzzles that have the difficulty of inserting shapes.
makes no sense to me. so you're telling me S.T.A.R.S or like super soldiers can't defend themselves against slow ass zombies physically?
