Agree to disagree then
Oddly enough I think Silent Hill 2 remake has better action than RE2 Remake. The fact that Melee is actually effective and you can dodge makes it better in terms of combat.
RE2 has better combat because that is the focus.
RE2 has more unlocks for NG+.
RE2 runs at 200+ fps.
SH2 has better story, graphics, and soundtrack.
Sorry I meant like.. genre wise. Silent Hill 2 kept it's roots as a survival horror game but the Resident Evil remakes went the path of the action game because they wanted to emulate the success of Resident Evil 4 and later entries in the series.
So Resident Evil remakes became less about the horror aspect of the games and more about the shooting up hordes of zombies. They even made ammo much more common in the remakes to accommodate that shift.
Yeah, this ^
RE2 focused heavily on combat instead of the horror story aspect so that's the game it became and it did what it set out to do very well.
As for the NG+ stuff the original RE2 already had a pretty robust selection of unlocks for a PS1 game and they expanded on that for the remake whereas this remake for Silent Hill 2 was basically 1 to 1 of the original game with minor aesthetic changes to make it more closely resemble the concept art for the original design of the game.
RE2 has a very basic combat. It's basically stay in range of an enemy and shoot them with your pistol that feels like its shooting out pellets. Don't even think about fighting zombies in close range with melee because it's useless. While in SH2 Remake you can dodge in different directions and melee actually is a viable way of combat.
200+ fps is given since it's a 2019 game. Silent Hill 2 remake is a 2024 game so obviously RE2 remake would run much better.
Absolutely. RE7 and RE8 perfectly show that they're capable of doing good action and horror segments in the same game but for whatever reason they decided to shift more toward combat.
Well if I was Capcom I would too. Their action oriented RE games are the ones that sold best. They're just doing what's best for business and can you blame them?
ammo in RE2 Remake was scarce but that's probably because I played it on hardcore
If I'm being completely honest this is my first Silent Hill and bloober team did an amazing job. I think this remake is going to generate more newcomers into the series. Can't wait for future Silent Hill titles
Also no you can't make the excuse of the game being old, they look almost identical in graphical quality, but RE Engine is just better. RE4 Remake uses the same engine and also runs at 200+ fps
Ironically best and worse. Resident Evil 4 was/is the most beloved entry to the franchise and was the game that kickstarted the shift to the action genre but it's direct sequel Resident Evil 5 was mocked for it's over the top ridiculousness because it tried too hard to be an action movie and every entry in the franchise after it sold worse and worse until Resident Evil 7, where they returned to their horror roots.
I think the difference is with the remakes of RE2/3/4 is that they really sat down and perfected the gameplay so that they could make a more enjoyable experience for the player whereas with games like 5 and Revelations they just sort of threw in machine gun kung-fu ♥♥♥♥ and hoped it looked cool.
