Why is she there? I know she can't see the monsters like James & Angela do & she had ties to Mary but, she's just a kid? Why did the town call her there even if it is protecting her? Just because she "got in the middle" of what James & Mary had going on? Poor kid :/
Doesn't she have family that's wondering wth happened to her?

She ran away with Eddy and is trying to find Mary. She wasn't so much "called" as the other characters were, more like, just wanted to find Mary and thought she would be in Silent Hill since she talked about it to her a few times. Like Flat Arthur said, the original gives you a little more about this.

Also she's the only character that doesn't have any trauma and so to her Silent Hill is just a normal town.

Silent Hill 3 was a bust with PCSX2. Every one I've tried has had issues that stopped me from finishing it (ex: bloody maze hallway, textures were so melted everything looked like salami. couldnt find the door to get out).
Are the Silent Hill 2 ones better? I'd hate to get 80% through & get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ by graphic issues again.

You might have better luck with the PC version which is floating around. It was a decent port unlike SH2 and should run fine without any mods or patches.

Saying that for the PC version of SH2 there is a mod called "Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition" that fixes all the issues the original port had and brings it more in line with the PS2 version. Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition is arguably the best version to play of OG SH2.

Mary was terminally ill. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think they'd put a "healthy" young girl next to a dying, disfigured patient whose every moment is filled with pain. Hospitals have ways to separate their patients.

If Laura and Mary "met at the hospital" and "talked a lot", then there's a high chance that Laura was terminally ill too and placed in a paliative care wing...

If Laura was an orphan, then she probably wasn't baptized, as the parents have to agree to this ceremony.

From my point of view, the Leave ending is James and Laura leaving limbo and ascending heaven, which parallels Jacob's Ladder's ending. They found what they were looking for, accepted the hard truth and decided to move on...

Leave ending is choosing to go to Heaven.

Bliss, Maria and Rebirth endings is choosing to stay in limbo.

In Water and Stillness endings is choosing to go to Hell.

I recommend the abandonware PC download with the Enhanced Edition mod.

Laura is innocent so she can't see monsters and doesn't see the Otherworld like Angela, Eddie and James do. She's there in Silent Hill because Mary had written a letter and asked her nurse to deliver it to Laura after her death, in the letter she congratulated Laura for her 8th birthday and Laura assumed with this part of the letter: "I'm far away now. In a quiet, beautiful place." as Mary being in Silent Hill because it's regarded as a beautiful town and Mary had shown photos of the place to Laura so she went there with the belief Mary is alive and that she'll be able to see her if she visited the town.

And no she doesn't have any family, she's an orphan because her parents died though their cause of death wasn't shown. It's why she became attached to Mary because she sees her as a motherly figure. It's revealed that Laura has been in the same hospital as Mary with the same nurse although it wasn't revealed why Laura was there.

TL;DR - Laura is in Silent Hill searching for Mary because of the letter that Mary had written for her, unaware that Mary had died within the same week of her 8th birthday.

PCSX2 ist pretty enhanced meanwhile and almost every game runs good with it as long as your PC is powerful enough. Even RPCS3 is getting better and better.

Sure, some bugs here and there but every game i tested was playable to the end. I remember many games was running horrific a few years ago. But they are fixed meanwhile.

PCSX2 is the best PS2 emulator you can get and probably the best to play retro console games.
