Guess they did it for artistic reasons, whatever they may be. Though personally I prefer the v1.0 flesh wall and flaming stairs.

The fire did luck much better. I found that scene really lacked more red and orange lights, making the fire look fake. Now I don't get why they changed it.
About the flesh walls, I suppose it had something to do with optimizaton. That part already struggles a bit as it is.

I'm glad they fixed the flames in the staircase. It looked freaking AWFUL with that orange glow overpowering all other colors in the scene. Looks much improved now.

I wish they had kept the pulsating flesh walls and UFO ending's character transformations though.
