compare it which one is darker
They did not liked the original. Because It was cryptic, required a lot of personnal investment and interpretation, that lot of gamers in 2024 don't have. They did not understood the entire plot mysteries etc. They said the game was :
- Too old
- Not very scary
- Too dark
- Too short
- Clunky
- difficult to understand
(As you)
they don't like the David Lynch aura, etc. (like you with this remake) I love the OG so much (I can't count how many times I finished it or made things around it as a fan). But I got it. They prefered the remake instead of the 2001 entry.
I love both, but our vision is biased because we got used to the OG for a very long time. This remake took some elements to install some fear, overhauled lot of things of the original. If it does not work for you, it works for others. That's what you have to think about.
The only things I don't like in this remake is the voice acting of Mary and Maria, the performance on PC (even on good setups), the "action" oriented gameplay, and the audio mix. It's seems like the songs are too quiet. I recommand these settings :
Effects : 65-70%
Music : 80-90%
The new endings are very good. And the graphics are good enough to capture the original color palette, and the atmosphere. And even if It won't replace the original in my heart, I will love them as the complete experience.
PS : Sorry for my english, I'm belgian
SBI detected = Game rejected
Also, to be completely transparent, I've yet to complete my first playthrough of the game on my brother's console.
People doesn't seem to understand that a remake can be different from the original without it being a bad thing. A lot of people just can't experience something without judging it, and by that I mean considering it either good or bad. They just can't simply admit that they just don't like said "thing", they need to justify it with their very own and very subjective "objectivity".
Truth is, an opinion is always subjective.
You can't satisfy everyone because everyone has different expectations. Remakes can range from being a perfect carbon copy of the original (such as Shadow of The Colossus) to being competely different, akin to a reboot or a soft reboot (like DooM 2016 or FFVII Remake) even if they are not necessarily marketed as such.
When a remake is anounced, I see it neither as an outrage to the original game nor as a criticism point where I get to spit on everything that's changed. I see it as another vision of the same game. It's an answer to the question "What if a new game, inspired by this classic, was created today with another vision?" And sorry, but not sorry, because that's not necessarily a bad thing at all.
Simply put, Silent Hill 2 Remake is not about playing the exact same game with modern graphics so people can keep comparing it to the original, it's about creating a new vision of Silent Hill 2, inspired by it, that can be enjoyed differently. That's a choice that has been made by the devs, and again, that not necessarily a bad thing.
When I play a remake, I don't continuously ask "why is this different from the original" or "how dare they mock my beloved one" or even maybe "the original was better and I spit on this". I'm more like "Oh, a remake? I love and enjoye the original a lot, chances are I will enjoy this one too".
In the end, if I enjoy a remake, that's great. If I don't, bummer, I'll stick to the original instead, so I don't mind.
And just by looking at the SH2R's reception by the critics and the reviews, it seems like Bloober Team made a pretty good job capturing the original's essence and made a pretty good game on top of it. From my own experience (I just arrived at the Lakeview Hotel), I share that opinion.
Minus the technical issues, 9/10 people that don't like this remake are the ones that keep comparing it to the original without taking a second to actually try enjoying the game as is, and most of the others just find it "too dated" to be enjoyed, which is kinda inronic.
TL;DR
It's not about being a "true" Silent Hill 2 fan or not, it's about not considering SH2R as a "forced replacement" that needs to be judged because it is just not exactly the same thing, but as a new game that is inspired from Silent Hill 2 and which can be enjoyed independantly from SH2.
All those fans that enjoy the remake understood that.
Angela: "For me, it's always like this."
I will preface this as saying I don;t believe for a second you played the game or the original games or are a fan. Too many of your points "scream" I watched my favourite youtube grifter play it
- The game has no padding for a Fan of Silent Hill. Every place you go has easter eggs, notes and other subtle clues to the World of silent Hill and the story. The fact you hated the record player puzzle which links into playing a iconic Akira Yamoka track fro the original indicates your not a fan.
The developers changed very little and what they did change or add to the game fit perfectly. I honestly wished they put more of a creative mark on it as it feels like I'm replaying the original.
Too dark? Really!? The Silent hill games are all about Darkness. The first 3 Silent Hills use Darkness in a way thats chilling. If you are afrade of the dark Silent Hill isn't for you. I bet it was too dark because you didn't play it. You watched a stream which makes it harder to see.
Not scary- Says the guy complaining its too dark. I bet you didn't select retro mode no hud no aiming retcle Hard Mode did you? Be too scary for you loss in the dark. This game is much scarier then the og Silent Hill 2. The enemies are actually a threat, They are like ninjas and pyramid head himself isn't super slow or very easy to dodge like in the OG.
Modern Day censorship - There isn't any and if your saying that you didn't play the game. Your just anoter one of them SBI DEU detected zealots who need to go outside and stop worshipping youtube grifters. The Iconic scenes are all there.
Maria - You want Maria to shut up and take beatings from you?
The SBI detected DUI obsessed men always end up displaying their Hatred towards women. See other posts complaining of a lack of sexual violence too. Women to them are just objects for their pleasure and should take their abuse apparently.
Western writers - So your a xenophobe too eh?
I guess you didn't know Team silent went to American to learn how to draw and write western characters. They did this for the original SH2. Silent Hill 2 is suppose to be in the west.
RE4 - RE4 is a well recieved game but Silent Hill 2 Remake isn't anything like it. The Enemies do flinch and you can shoot and hit them to knock em down or stop their attacks.
It's clear you never played the game and this is a troll thread
The first thing is, what do you want to achieve?
Do you think the rest of us are going to stop enjoying it because of your post? Do you think we are going to ask for a refund for your opinion?
Do you really think people here care at all what you think of the game?
Are you looking for comfort or something from the rest of the users?
Have you tried complaining to your mom to see if she'll give you a bag of candy? Or is it that since she doesn't care, you come here to complain to see if someone will listen to you and take you seriously?
If you say you have played OG, I think you have enough maturity and gray hair down there to open a 5-year-old mentality post like this one.
You don't like it? Don't play it, it's that simple. The rest of us like it and we don't care about your opinion.
Don't you know how to enjoy? Ask for help.
Do you feel scammed? That's what reviews are for to decide before buying. It's that simple.
Do you want me to continue? I'll draw you a sketch if you understand it better?
Combat is good even on hard but having it non stop sucks ass every 3 steps enemy bro like chill out a bit lemme enjoy atmosphere etc...Instead of nonstop fighting bam bam bam repeat 2 steps again.
Feels like playing bloodborne instead of sh2r
Rambo in saving his wife from clutches of Silent Hill in theaters this October
How does it make it worse? What does moving the Eddie and Laura scene remove from the experience? Need a little justification on how this is poor otherwise it sounds like you're complaining for the sake of it. The remake doesn't have to be an exact 1:1, some differences are accepable. In this case I don't think the different locations really have any benefit or drawback. It's just a change in scenery. Unless they're moving a scene away from somewhere that the original scene was specifically tied to.
The only time I thought the darkness was an issue was before you got the flashlight. A couple of places you visited should have had some light to account for the lack of a flashlight at that point. After that, there's no issue. What do you expect? It's a horror game, it's going to be dark. Navigation isn't an issue unless you're navigationally challenged in some way. The areas you visit generally aren't open enough to get lost. IMO
Horror is pretty subjective. What works on some people, doesn't work on others and so on. I think it's been reasonably spooky so far up to the Hospital. Not pants ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terror. But better than most horror slop you see. Horror isn't all about the threat of dying either. There's ways of being spooky without having the despicable knife guy lurking in the shadows ready to chop your balls off. But that is the easiest way to be scary behind jumpscares.
That being said. I do think there's maybe more monsters than there should be. They could definitely have cut down on the amount. For me it became annoying in the hospital basement with the 5 or so mannequins. Each one came back to life less than a minute after dropping them which just ended up more annoying than anything. One came back right after Maria said "They're gone for now" ironically enough.
But I do take two issues:
1. If you want the exact same map layout as the original, and the exact same cinematics in the exact same sequence and location, why pick up this game in the first place? Just play the original, or the enhanced edition, or the crappy HD collection. This isn't so much an issue with the game, as much as flawed expectations going into it. Could have been cleared up with previews and reviews before you bought the game. Charitably, I'm going to assume you bought the game, even though it doesn't show here that you own it. Lots of people seem to have excuses and rationale for why they speak of first hand experience with the title, despite it not being in their library.
2. You pretty much completely lost me when you started complaining about the female characters. I think it speaks to personal deficiencies, all these people in here complaining about *specifically* the female character models. It's not as if you read or watch movie reviews from established, thoughtful and respected critics of film, and they say "Oh yeah, it had a thought-provoking plot, tight pacing, and beautiful cinematography... The only drawback was that the women were ugly." That kind of stuff just reeks of poor socialization and latent misogyny.
I was also just called a xenophobe by another remake defender, which is funny considering I was born and live in the west.
