Question about Eddie
In the lore of Silent Hill, is there an explanation for why Eddie is so tough when you fight him?

I mean, obviously in the game he’s tough because he’s a boss fight, and you can’t have a boss drop from a few handgun rounds. But in the Silent Hill universe, is there any justification for why he’s so difficult to put down?

Because based on everything I can tell, he’s just as human as James is. He’s not a manifestation of the town the way the monsters are. He’s just a guy, and not a particularly robust one at that; he’s out of shape, wimpy and vomits uncontrollably at the sight of a dead body when you first meet him. Then a few hours later, he loses his mind and it’s like you’re fighting Revolver Ocelot in MGS1.

So is there any justification for how that change comes about?

Gameplay mechanic
Same way any gun fight occurs in any “grounded” storyline: all your shots are just grazing them, your melee hits “miss”. Think of it in terms of Uncharted’d Drake and his luck mechanic.

Maybe he's the only real entity you fight in SH after all.

Nah, it's just gameplay mechanics.

I do kind of like the idea that this is just another example of the town ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with James, that he isn’t nearly as competent as he thinks he is and the town has been “letting” him win, and suddenly Eddie seems superhuman because the training wheels are off.

He's using heals through his inventory like in the original game

He ate so much ice cream and pizza he became invincible.

Ah yes, Eddie "Shalashaska" Dombrowski.

He's got Liquid Snake's arm grafted on him, therefore his genes defines his memes.

Don't let the looks deceive you. Eddie isn't fat, in fact he is in peak performance. He is equipped in futuristic liquid bullet-proof vest, which coincidentally looks like extra kilos from eating too much pizza. :yamiko: After all, this town is full of monsters. How could he just sit there and eat pizza?!

I'm still confused about the ice cream eating. Desperately eating melted ice cream using his fingers. I can't really capture what message they were trying to convey there, but there's something.

"you didn't lose your appetite" or something like that

He only hit me maybe 3 times total on normal difficulty

I thought he was one of the easier bosses imo

Hide behind meet, shoot him right after he shoots. Also have pistol always loaded and ready to shoot too

But that should also be true for Eddie himself. Maybe Eddie is more efficient because he really wants to kill James, while James is more reluctant to kill and part of him is trying to stop him from getting good hits on Eddie.

he has the pizza buff

If only James had his pillow, Eddie would see who's the boss!

That's an interesting take. However, the fight itself is definitely due to game mechanics and Bloober wanted to keep it faithful.

If it was on me, the fight would be completely melee combat.
