SILENT HILL 2

SILENT HILL 2

Horror Game of the Year
I’m not a Silent Hill fan boy. Until 4 months ago I had never even played a Silent Hill game.

4 months ago, I bought a ps2, a $100 copy of Silent Hill 2 and completed it.

Let me tell you, that OG was great. No handholding, a deep story, great exploration, and amazing graphics (given the age of the game). Only downfall in it, was the clunky combat

I even really enjoyed the limited and sometimes frustrating camera angles. Really added to the horror immersion.

Now to the remake.

Great visuals, amazing sound design. When you hear multiple enemies in the background, combined with the game sounds/music, it really thrusts you into the game.

The game has revamped puzzles, Easter eggs of the original game, and new twists in basically every part of the game.

It’s definitely more scary and suspenseful than the original. Trust me, when you have to overload a generator in the prison, and face a dozen baddies with low health and limited weapons, you’ll be on the edge.

Exploration is encouraged and rewarded. And of course your choices matter because you can change the ending to your game.

Not only do the graphics make it better then the first game, the areas are way better then the original. The Labrynth and the Prison are probably the best areas of the game.

Yes, you will get some stuttering - I have a 5800x3D paired with a 4090.

Most of my stuttering were during the early sections of the game. But I really didn’t experience any major stutters during fights

Especially the boss fights. And speaking of boss fights, they are 1000 times better than the original.

Please don’t get me wrong, the OG was incredible, especially speaking about the age of the game. I thoroughly enjoyed that experience, but the Remake takes the cake - hands down

And for those who complain about no game direction, look at the map dummy, areas of importance are either circled, or have an exclamation point to help your progression

Try it, it’s an incredible experience

Let’s hold off on any “GOTY” talk until they address the technical issues. I’d be glad to discuss that after the stutter is fixed, but right now it’s a disqualifier

Like I said, I’ll admit there is some stutter, but 90% of the experience was perfect for me.

When you are inside an area (like hotel, prison, apartments, Labrynth, etc.), I experienced very little stutter

Could be my 4090 helping things out. I’m just telling you that it’s hands down my game of the year

My only negative experience with the game was encountering a bug after meeting with Pyramid Head on top of a roof. Right after our encounter, at the very next location, I looked through a door “Peep hole”, and was magically taken to the other side of the screen.

The new area I should have had access to was inaccessible. It took me about 30 minutes to realize it was a bug. But luckily all I had to do was reload the auto save, then everything was great again

Well, I’m on a 4090 as well and I think everyone can agree that this is not a good display of its prowess. Regardless, you’ve said your piece I’ve said mine

Oddly enough the only bug I've found in uuuh... 30 hours or so of play? is the exact same spot but a different bug! After the cutscene ended it replayed itself, but only the section where you encounter pyramid head and not the portion where James stands up in the next room.

Agree and love it so far. I think I am one of the lucky ones though because on maxed graphic settings not getting stutter and no issues besides a rare crash that only shows upon quitting game:
Prove it please. Record gameplay in the apartments.

Just another "Silent Hill 2 fans excited to play the game for the first" syndrome thread. :steamhappy:

I agree with GotY but let’s not act like super fanboys like those on the Starfield forums.
I would rate the game 9/10. The game does have performance issues. The Hotel felt a bit underwhelming it looks great but it wasn’t really scary and I didn’t really like the layout either and apart from one great puzzle the others were too easy. The prison had some annoying sections with enemies. I didn’t like Maria, her voice acting was a let down and I wish she looked paler and a bit creepier.
But overall this game is close to a masterpiece. I loved the Eddie boss fight most I think. I also enjoyed the the “ in between” moments before you entered the apartments , prison etc.
My favourite area was the hospital, great puzzles , atmosphere and sound design.
