Just don't change too much and any changes they do make, make them relevant and it'll be decent.
If, and I say very strongly IF they stick to SH2 story, then it could be great.
EDIT: After watching the video, the fact they say they are "modernizing it, giving the audience today what they want is a HUUGE red flag to me. I say this because of the decline in actual horror. Everything today is shallow slop, jumpscare after jumpscare. When is the last truly and genuinely terrifying horror movie that wasn't just shallow piss-poor writing strewn together with in your face constant jumpscares? This whole "modern audience" is a huge red flag. It also indicates to me that they don't really care about the wants of the long time Silent Hill fans at all with this movie. That same language is why I was somewhat skeptical (and pleasantly surprised) of the remake.
But there is some language there that is huge red flags for me, and I am highly, highly skeptical of this movie right now.
But no, we got SH Revelations instead. As much as I like SH3, no amount of star power you bring in will redeem this script. That scene in the car where Heather explains the story to Vincent made me die inside.
I will watch the new movie, but my expectations are low.
Even some of the games are questionable. Any game after 5 just destroys the lore and what the first 4 built up.
I completely agree with you on the movies. I am highly skeptical but I will watch it just to see.
Silent Hill movies can't even get the aesthetic right
I'll reserve judgement for the movie, but honestly any movie based on a game these days is literal hot garbage and a cash grab.
EDIT: Never mind, just saw the trailer, they are bringing back the same guy, I expect nothing but the hottest of garbage.
All I can say about that is YIKES. yeah, if the same guy who was behind the original 2 films, is also behind this one...walp. There goes any optimism I had about it.
Now I will say, to be fair, a lot of Silent Hill IS because of a cult, The Order--the original SH1 game about the cult trying to bring both parts of Alessa together so that she might birth their God. But the suffering and pain and immolation that Alessa went through was manifest in Silent Hill, I am assuming because of her pseudo magical blood and assisted because Silent Hill being built on an old native american burial ground.
So the cult IS a strong part of SH lore, but the town itself has very specific things it does; we see this not just in SH2, but we see this in the original AND in 3. And later 4 as well.
But you need look no further than Pyramid Head being present, to know this guy has zero knowledge about the story of Silent Hill. I said before, it feels like the movies just plastered things that are in Silent Hill together, hoping something would land. And instead it fails utterly.
'Same thing he failed at the last two movies. He doesn't understand that Silent Hill as a town is it's own entity and that the monsters represent the weight of guilt and sin specific to the game.
Any time I see Pyramid Head in any game/movie besides 2 I know someone somewhere missed the point.
I've actually never seen silent hill movies but i do 100% agree that it is just impossible for people to try and get an actual faithful adaptation
The first one was not a good silent hill movie.
