imho the ps2 version of sh2 couldve used trimming down already. expanding it to be even longer was probably a mistake when it was already so long as to discourage repeat playthroughs despite the unlocks and ng+ endings.

it's hard for me to rate this remake because i still genuinely prefer the ps2 version, but if someone hasn't played the OG they might love this one. I prefer to see sh2r as the de facto live action movie adaptation of sh2 some people were waiting on but never got.

I think almost everything you mentioned is very personal.

I had a completely different experience than you, especially in the hospital. At no point did I feel the urge to rush through the game. On the contrary, I calmly unraveled the story and tackled the challenges I encountered along the way. But here I have to mention something: I've played exclusively on joypad and I think it makes a HUGE difference. Much more relaxed position to play and the lack of properly response or aim make you go much slower into the game.

Yes, the puzzles are simple, and that's one of the best parts of the game. There's no unnecessary backtracking, and the puzzles can be solved more naturally, without focusing on overly challenging ones that just waste all your free time (I'm 40 years old and work 10 to 12 hours a day, so I really appreciate when games respect my free time).

As for whether it's worth $70? I don’t think any game is worth that, so it’s not something personal here. That's why I can’t even remember the last time I bought a AAA game without sharing the cost with cousins or friends.

Like literally everything after that almost felt sluggish and boring. First of all any remake of a game should not exceed like 40 bucks lol lets be real but 70 is insane. Second of all, while I do like the fact that they kept all the OG puzzles but simply reapplied the way you complete them in a different way, the little extra in between fetch quests and keys you have to acquire before these that were not in the OG make it very repetitive and slow. Especially combined with the extreme enemy spam. The gameplay was not difficult at all and I literally didn't die once in the entire playthrough so it wasn't like the large amount of enemies made the gameplay super difficult or anything it just made it repetitive and boring. The hospital is a prime example of this and after seeing about the 600th nurse and lying figure I just wanted to move on. Also the fact that you simply fight the same enemy for 8 hours straight. You could argue that there were the exact same amount of enemies or even less considering there wasn't the mandarin hotel part in the OG and you only saw them through the tunnel during the otherworld backtrack after the hospital and didn't actually fight them at all. But the thing is, the OG was able to get away with such little enemy variation as they were mostly placed in select spots or scattered outside here and there. There was not super long overly dragged on puzzle and exploration segments with 15x enemies per each section. This combination along with the fixed camera angles made for interesting but not slow gameplay. Unlike this remake where you already know what's behind the corner because you've just killed 15 lying figures in the same hall. This also applies to items like ammo and health. There's just too much. Like the OG, this is also fixed by just not being so overly expanded. It's quality over quantity. The remake also is obsessed with reminiscing on the original which isn't necessarily bad but just really unnecessary with all the memory interactions. I laughed when I got the bread achievement but it's pretty stupid honestly. Like why even reference 3 at all? It's like the game is constantly just like "LOOK SEE IT'S A REFERENCE SEE, REMEMBER WHEN THIS WAS HERE?? BUT NOW WE MOVED IT BUT SEE YOU REMEMBER THIS PART?" It just seems very out of place. I guess all i'm saying is that the OG worked perfectly the way it was and when you expand it and add modern camera/controls/combat/expand all areas and fill them with enemies it just takes away completely from the experience and honestly doesn't really work well imo. The combat is also very basic and again the dodging and cinematic attack in no way feels like SH. Now the game does look insane. It's easily one of the best looking games out there right now and I love how the soundtracks play at the sections they played at in the OG and how they stay true to it but with a slight twist added to them. They sound great. I personally don't mind the character remodels and don't get the Angela and Maria hate. They don't look that bad at all or "DEI" or "woke" so I don't get where that main topic complaint about this game comes from. Also, FOV. Like if you're going to re-imagine a fixed camera ps2 classic survival horror game onto modern gameplay with modern over shoulder 3rd person camera... add a FOV slider. The FOV is awful, simply awful, and the fact that this is a triple A title and does not have a FOV slider is ridiculous. IMO this game didn't need a remake at all and i'm honestly unsure why it was made considering this series doesn't really have a massive audience. The audience that fully played and enjoyed the OG most likely would share some of the same opinions I have said in this essay i've wrote so far and it just seems kind of odd that they would completely remake the game from scratch and target it towards more of a modern gaming audience. I did enjoy the game for the most part but honestly if I were to go back in time with what I know after playing I would have passed on it and just played the OG with the team silent remake if I got the itch to play again lol.

TLDR; The game looks and sounds great but ultimately fails to match the perfect magic formula of the original by breaking how it flowed with modern combat/camera/enemy overuse and too much area expansion thus creating a sort of butchered resident evil remake feeling sort of game that just has a silent hill mod pack installed over it.

Whatever you decide is your choice. I have no reason to shame you for that.

Punctuation sir.

Either way, opinions/reviews and preferences or having fun are all objective. There is no wrong other than stating something is "bad" rather than stating that YOU find it bad.

Personally I found this brilliant, not been able to finish it but so far it exceeded my expectations.

even the og sh2 is pretty boring, especially compared to the first game. sh1 is more scary, dark and atmospheric and has better soundtrack. i think the enemies in sh2 are a major downgrade from the 1st game too

I felt the same about the game.
As a game it is good for casual returns through it, but no where near as rich and detailed as the original. They constantly toss in old references from the OG game and mock us to your face about it even the voice actors/actresses do it to us. "remember this from the old game? Hahaha! No!" The game over all is a middle finger to the fans.

PS. Ignore the trolls here who came into my thread too about my review and said the same things... They are here doing the same thing to you too. Sad.
