What exactly is wrong with Maria?
Seems to me, like the main "issue" is that they made her look less like a "tramp". But like, ok, so her tattoo is now on her chest, and she's wearing a black pencil cut dress instead of having her midriff exposed. And the skirt is no longer an animal pattern. And? She doesn't exactly look any less like a stripper.

Unless people are complaining because she looks less like a hooker. I get it. For some people, 1:1 accuracy matters so much that they feel the outfit should be EXACTLY the same (which is probably why Claire got less flak in RE2 Remake, since they included the Classic outfit as well).

And apparently them referencing it like an Easter Egg with the closet scene wasn't good enough. But this is also a story about a guy imagining a random stripper looking like his ex-wife. I'm not sure "sexual gratification and fantasy" is that important, unless you count his own sexual frustration at not being able to ♥♥♥♥ his own ill wife. But ok? The whole point of Silent Hill is to twist and desecrate one's traumas and emotions, making them real but also in a twisted and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up form. Hence the nurses also looking the way they do.

For most people, none of the things you've seen brought up time and again are an issue (at least not a major one). That's why the game has done very well and garnered high praise from critics and players alike.

The complaining is largely coming from YouTubers/journalists who fish for traffic with outrage from those gullible enough to latch on without thinking for themselves, or from a very vocal minority that wants to push certain agendas (or is echoing the aforementioned YouTubers). That's it; that literally explains the vast majority of this complaining. In time, it will die down (already has been) as these people come to the realization that the game is being enjoyed despite their efforts to establish a narrative otherwise.

Are there legitimate issues with the game? Yes. Namely, the performance isn't perfect. And... that's kind of about it for the "big" ones. There's also some requested features (cloud saves) and minor quirks and bugs, but you'll notice that besides the performance, most people are happy enough with almost everything about the game itself.

As for Claire in Resident Evil 2, people were even complaining about that. They were saying it wasn't a true 1:1 outfit even though it was close, so people will always complain.

That being said, I'm all for requests or "complaining" to get 1:1 outfits because sometimes a thing is changed and you just don't like the changed one. Those who hold the original game near and dear might just want the original outfits. And that's fine. It is admittedly odd that Konami/Bloober didn't include them, even if it was as paid DLC as there was a financial incentive there, but maybe they figured most people wouldn't be too bothered by the changes (or maybe they figured modders would do there thing here, which they have). But the majority of that complaining isn't "good faith" complaining; it's just an excuse to push whatever outrage/agenda they want. That's why every time one of those complainers made a point, and it was refuted, the goal post moved.

nothing's wrong with her. only people complaining are people who saw their favourite grifter on youtube talk about it, and flocked here to talk about it. look at the amount of people without mouse icons crying about the redesign.

some people claim the redesign was done purely to "censor the male gaze" but the tattoo was moved to her cleavage, meaning that in order to see it, the player would have to look at her chest, so that point is moot.
