Edit: so yes, the team have done a fantastic job on him. They achieved their goal. He's a weak, pathetic loser with a gun, and I hate him with every fiber of my being as I'm supposed to.
the way he delivered those lines in the end was better, although i liked the "a corpse can't laugh" in the remake it was powerfull

He was more likable in the original, that's for sure. It made you feel bad for killing him (which is the point). I do agree with the OP about the actor's performance, though. So much better in the remake.
