I thought he has a writer (or attempted to be a writer). I found a photo full up with scrunched up bits of paper and a caption saying that was how someone's career began. It makes sense for his character actually.

It's implied that is the case since Masahiro Ito took a lot of inspiration from Jacobs Ladder and Jacob worked at a post office in the film. We only know that he's a clerk that worked at a small company because that was confirmed here [www.silenthillmemories.net] in the book of lost memories back in 2003.
