According to this place,(which who knows if it is legit but they do cite Takayoshi Sato in what looks like it may have been an interview or something?), SH sold 2 million copies of the game on Playstation 1 and SH2 sold 1 million. It does not mention sales of 3 and 4, but at very least SH1 did sell double what SH2 sold
Which to me is interesting because I actually prefer SH2 to SH1, but there's no doubt that SH1 is a damn good game too. Given how much SH1 sold though, 2 mil copies, I'd be surprised if they DID NOT do a remake of it if they deem the SH2 remake a success (and I think they will).
I feel like while SH1 sold more, SH2 is oft talked about a lot more and the elements and themes around Silent Hill itself very much inspired later titles.
Edit: My dumbass forgot to post the link to where I found that info. Sales mentioned are on this website: https://vgsales.fandom.com/wiki/Best-selling_Konami_games#cite_note-silenthill-64
Like I said, not sure how...reliable that source is, but they do site another source. But it's in Japanese and it gives a page not found, so whatever they were sighting is like the hole in the shop--it's gone now.
Still a solid game.
Agreed. It was very different, so it wasn't nearly as well liked; but I for one, quite enjoyed the idea of being locked away, trapped in a room you cannot escape from. And the fact it fleshed out more about Walter Sullivan and what happened in things you read about in previous Silent Hill games was awesome. We need a SH4 remake too. ♥♥♥♥ it, just remake all the mainline titles
(Except Homecoming, let's forget that bastardization of the series ever existed).
This is a misconception the game was always supposed to be part of the franchise. The misconception comes from a misunderstanding form some interview where it was explained that the game started out as just "Room 302". The game was originally going to be something of a spin off title with the name essentially being "Room 302: Silent Hill" but then got rolled into being a mainline game.
This has a whole bunch of references.
