I can't pick up the Great Knife

I'm at the broken down cube and after you find maria, the game won't let me pick up the great knife for some reason, does anyone know a fix for this?

idk man, I had the opposite problem. I was trying to save after getting it, and constantly picking it up on accident, because the game was prioritizing the knife over the save point
