It's decent enough to grab my attention at the moment.
this is basically accurate. it's not dissimilar to resident evil but what changes it does could make or break it for you. SH is like a different movie director on the same genre.
The puzzles are more fun than in RE games imo and the level design is about the same quality
But yeah overall they are pretty similar
Also, not every game needs to be compared to another game just because others say it. Most of the people commenting are not even old enough to grow up on either series.
They also fail to realize Japan is a collectivist culture and when things are popular ... they are popular. They don't see these games as similar, but sparked by inspiration from other games/so on.
Is the combat different? It looks and feels almost identical, even down to the way enemies react to being shot.
For instance, this post. If you summarize it - they stated it is like resident evil because a) they have a dodge button b) level design is about the same (???) c) ... that's it. So please, make your own judgement and have fun with whatever you have fun with. lol.
No. Focus more on melee and dodging - while in older RE games (during SH2 era), it was either gun or try to knife, lol. It is not the same combat.
Remember, these would be the same people who would say RE is better than Parasite Eve. If you would tell them, slow down horsey - those are kinda not the same games lol. They would reply "they both have fixed cameras and a gun"... "character even wears a jacket". They just don't know how to think for themselves, so their brain as to attempt other connections to validate.
So, yes, the SH2 remake plays very similarly to the RE2 and RE3 remakes.
However, SH2 leans far more on the horror aspect of the survival horror genre when compared to resident evil. It's not the scariest game ever, but it does a decent job.
Again, this post - they simply stated they were inspired to use the camera in the same way... and deal the cut scenes a little smoother into the story. That's all. Its not even a comment to make.
