Is this actually very similar to Resident Evil or are people just lying?
I'm interested in this remake as I never finished the OG, but I'm in the middle of playing RE3 and I noticed I get burn out *very* easily after I finished RE2, so if this is too similar, I might have to hold off for a longer time

I know puzzles are apparently more difficult and the game is more story-oriented, but is that all?

also, I used to hear they were significantly different games, but after this remake I heard they are more similar? How?

It is not zombie flick if you are asking about that. Puzzles are similar at times but the athmosphere is completely different. Combat is different too.

This is 99% similar to Resident evil game play but this game is more horrible.

In my opinion, it's a combination of RE2 gunplay + Callisto Protocol melee and dodge (but better) + The Evil Within 2 exploration (a little scaled down, but I still can see the similarities).

It's decent enough to grab my attention at the moment.

this is basically accurate. it's not dissimilar to resident evil but what changes it does could make or break it for you. SH is like a different movie director on the same genre.

Gameplay is very similar especially to RE3 remake which also has a dodge button

The puzzles are more fun than in RE games imo and the level design is about the same quality

But yeah overall they are pretty similar

No, it is not like RE in the ways you think. When this series came out, it was more dedicated to atmosphere and environmental scares. This is less on the shooting and more based on the story/mix of atmosphere. It is just in the same genre, survival horror. You should not really compare the 2 heavily. Treat them very separate.

Also, not every game needs to be compared to another game just because others say it. Most of the people commenting are not even old enough to grow up on either series.

They also fail to realize Japan is a collectivist culture and when things are popular ... they are popular. They don't see these games as similar, but sparked by inspiration from other games/so on.

Is the combat different? It looks and feels almost identical, even down to the way enemies react to being shot.

For instance, this post. If you summarize it - they stated it is like resident evil because a) they have a dodge button b) level design is about the same (???) c) ... that's it. So please, make your own judgement and have fun with whatever you have fun with. lol.

No. Focus more on melee and dodging - while in older RE games (during SH2 era), it was either gun or try to knife, lol. It is not the same combat.

Remember, these would be the same people who would say RE is better than Parasite Eve. If you would tell them, slow down horsey - those are kinda not the same games lol. They would reply "they both have fixed cameras and a gun"... "character even wears a jacket". They just don't know how to think for themselves, so their brain as to attempt other connections to validate.

It's very clear that Bloober Team and Konami took a LOT of inspiration from the Resident Evil remakes Capcom released.

So, yes, the SH2 remake plays very similarly to the RE2 and RE3 remakes.

However, SH2 leans far more on the horror aspect of the survival horror genre when compared to resident evil. It's not the scariest game ever, but it does a decent job.

Again, this post - they simply stated they were inspired to use the camera in the same way... and deal the cut scenes a little smoother into the story. That's all. Its not even a comment to make.

The original wasn't very combat focused but i'd say the Remake is more combat focused than RE1R and RE2R.

In short - no. If you are looking for the action of the RE Remakes and want a survival horror game... this will probably seem boring. If you are looking to get super into atmosphere and story/exploration - you will find the game decent. It was NEVER seen as amazing like the people keep pretending. I promise you that. lol.
