Check some review next time before buying a game.
The remake doesn't do the original justice imo.
Its more of a psychological horror. Now the remake did give me a few jumpscares so I'll give it that.
But even the original sh1 was never really about horror. It was always more narrative focused with a strong sense of the psychological instead. That's an entirely different kind of horror.
I personally don't really get scared of games anymore (I used to). I do however recognize when a game is 'scary.' SH2 is definitely creepy at least. Funny you mentioned the main character. People LOVE Resident Evil 4 and Leon is probably the corniest character in the whole RE universe.
I didn't like Leon either but at least he fit the narrative somewhat, in 4 he is a soldier with special forces training so it makes sense why he can do what he does and takes everything in his stride, whilst playing he also wonders if he will see the President daughter, is she still safe, that kind of thing.
James on the other hand is some random dude that rocks up to Silent Hill, immediately starts beating the ♥♥♥♥ out of anything that moves and I have yet to see him give a crap about his wife or question any of what he is doing.
4 hours which is what 1/4 of the game is more than enough time for the MC to show some kind of emotion.
But you can't critisize that game. Even when you say you still like it you're not allowed to acknowledge it's flaws. Even not having played the original game can get you chased with pitchforks.
