Not sure how difficulty has anything to do with an award, the game was never really hard to begin with.
Same with length even though it’s way longer then the original not to mention its maybe 20 hours for a blind playthrough how is that short?
As for it being linear granted less exploratory then the original but both are linear.
And the game being linear isn't a flaw either. With that logic you should consider all games to be inferior than way of samurai games.
It's like you taking one of your favorite story books and then writing a "remake" in your own words using the original story book as inspiration and borrowing ideas, concepts, and story elements from it.
Many other games deserved to be nominated this year, but instead they made a DLC and a card game named Balatro for the 2024 nominated as best games. After E3 was cancelled, every other gaming ceremony, such as Gamescom, became weaker and cursory too.
You don't own the game and are attacking it. The most common theme of those posting here.
There are extremely few games that are entirely new. The gaming industry is constantly copying games that came before it with souls like combat, crafting mechanics, story tropes, immature anime characters and zero innovation.
The copy/paste of gaming mechanics across the games industry is epidemic. Good strong storytelling with genuine emotional is severely lacking.
You have a boss run easy mode souls like game in the running for game of the year vs
yet another jrpg persona game
vs
a beloved remake plagued by todays anime tropes and immature dialog
vs
a innovative indie card game
vs
souls copypasta DLC.
I'm a huge final fantasy fan but that games characters have fallen into the trap of making each character a anime trope which is the same thing you see in the latest persona games. It's old, tired and overdone.
Every Jrpg has the same trope anime characters with high pitched voices or deadpan dialog who don't act like anyone in the real world and its about time we had games with characters who are more gritty & real with voice acting that matches that. The smoothed faced anime heroes copying the same trope for the 267th time is dull & unoriginal.
The games industry has failed to release games with thought provoking story lines, strong visceral emotion and real life trauma.
Silent Hill 2 was one of the only games in history to tackle this and the remake has done a excellent job of developing that with more scenes between characters and excellent voice acting.
We NEED more games like Silent Hill 2 that tackle real life thought provoking issues in a adult way.
This is the first game to bring to light the morally grey area of a terminal ill loved one dying of a disease or cancer that causing them extreme pain and suffering over the course of years. The first game to bring up the topic of someone at the end of their life, suffering in extreme pain and what impact that has on a persons mental health & the possible result of it.
You also have bullying, child abuse, revenge and self defence issues brought up alongside the guilt of survivors of said situations. I don't see any other games bringing up these thought provoking issues.
The games not short. It's longer then most of the Resident Evil remakes. The average first playthrough is 15-25 hours and if your 100%ing it that only increases. Add to that getting all the endings and you can add another 10-15 hours too that.
To 100% the game with all endings without using a game spoiling the game your talking 40+ hours.
Imo the remake just retreads the same plot from 20 years ago. I’m sure plenty of other games have tackled the topics but they get lost with every game that releases.
Also increasing the runtime to the remake isn’t anything to be proud of. In the end re2 remake is the better survival horror game mechanically compared to silent hill.
Most of the stuff starting at 0:40 onwards in the following video is not found in the original

The remake has many such examples of content you will not find in the original. They really expanded on what the original had. I'm playing the original within the last week and was completely surprised how fast you could get from the town to the apartments and how quickly you could complete the apartment section. Everything is so abridged in comparison.
Unlike the Steam awards. The nominees and the winners are decided by 100 journalists and other insiders in these awards. They let the general public vote to give the perception of participation and legitimacy, but the general public voting in these don't count for much. Don't remember the exact percentage but it was something low like 5% or something. That might have a minimal impact in swaying things maybe but the winner is decided by 100 journalists and insiders and supposedly they act as the represent the favorites of the gaming public at large.
