Strange flashing moments when staring at certain things

Twice in the game now I've seen what I can only describe as James having "huh....that's peculiar..." moments when you approach certain objects or spaces. This usually has the camera centering on whatever James is looking at, followed by strange wavy lines moving around and a ominous sound. What is this supposed to be?

The first I've seen is when first approaching the Woodside Apartments, if you move towards the dumpster James has this moment as he looks at.....I'm guessing what was in the dumpster, or the outside wall? I don't know. It's happened a second time once I managed to get inside but can't remember what I was looking at.

Both times I don't exactly know what James is looking at or what is so strange about it. I feel like the game is giving me a hint towards something, very much like Earthbounds' eerie sound when an NPC says something that eludes to something later.

These are references to the original Silent Hill 2 as if those stuff are from an alternate reality that being the original. Those stuff were in the original but aren't in the remake at all or not exactly the same as in the original. Those who played the original will immediately get the reference.

Dang it. I played the original, but when it first released two decades ago. I finished it, but it was a rental, so it was rushed. Never got to play it again, so my memory is hazy. I owned 1, 3, and 4, but not 2. Shame as it seems to be the community favorite.

If you want you can still play the original on PC, but it's not necessary as all those references are just minor stuff such as alternative puzzle, alternative location, alternative event or something you find while exploring in the original. Nothing major.
