PATCH 1.06 LAUNCH FIX

Open your Steam App and UNINSTALL Silent Hill 2. (Your saves will not be deleted because they are located in a different folder) Right-click Silent Hill 2 > Manage > Uninstall

Next, go to the location of your games.
Steam\steamapps\common

Delete the entire folder for Silent Hill 2.

Re-install the game.

I guarantee there are files that became corrupt, or a mod that has become incompatible with the update. No verifying files does not fix it. You have to manually delete the remaining folder.

Yeah this isn't the case. I installed it for the very first time and it didn't boot at all until i set both of the game executable files to run in admin mode

Very misleading. Besides the fact that this doesn't work for everyone, this will also disable launch parameters in Steam.

You're achievements are still triggering. The steam overlay gets disabled so you won't get the pop up animation. What's the bigger loss, steam overlay that does very little or being unable to play the game?

Your method still disables steam launch parameters which most people use for better performance. For example: -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -high are the most commont launch parameters and you wont be able to use it with admin mode.

False. I have 3 PCs at home. None of which required the game to be ran as an administrator.

Fix for me was specifying either -dx11 OR -dx12 as a launch option. It seemed to crash immediately while attempting to play the Konami logo video otherwise. I have an RX 6650XT and Ryzen 5 5600.

I completely uninstalled/reinstalled the game (even deleting the leftovers in steamapps\common), cleared shader cache, updated windows, and deleted my own %LocalAppData%\SilentHill2, and rebooted several times.

All I really needed was to specify the API (went with -dx12).

Just because you didn't need to doesn't make it false you tool. Many are reporting that it is needed. Maybe they use intel over Ryzen. Stop acting like you know everything you arrogant bell end

Watch my video and you'll realize how little the difference is with RTX off. As for upscaling, choose TSR and either low for less blur, or normal for less pixely
