Wow, the Bliss ending is just...oh man. *SPOILERS*
That's deep. I can interpret it in two ways. One is that James just "gives in" to the town and lets it take him. The other is that James decides he would rather live in ignorance of the truth, trading reality for happier memories.

But while it seems like his soul is forever trapped in the tape, however it plays out, James is happy either way. And I can't fault him for wanting that, even if it's a lie. It really cuts deep.

And props to Akira for reeling off something original for the credits to this ending. That might be my favorite track in the remake.

I only have one ending left, Stillness, and then I've 100%'d the game and can put it away. But it's really nice to see that at least one of the two original endings that Bloober came up with was a rich one. I wasn't expecting it to be that satisfying.

I just beat the game yesterday - had to sleep on it to take it all in. I really didn't connect that much with the story but I'll say that I really liked it. Personally, I got the leave ending on my first attempt, but I interacted as much as possible with Maria (I think a mistake was going through the rotten door which I bolted through accidentally after the double Pyramid Head fight).

I checked out the other endings last night after beating the game and Bliss always struck me as James literally 'giving in' to the town as you described it. It's the 'happiest' ending out of the bunch, truly for me he lives in his own delusion, literal bliss.

Personally, part of me wishes there would be an ending where he did learn from this wretched place and leave with Maria without mentioning the 'cough' line or she doesn't catch the disease.

Given that White Claudia , a hallucinogenic, is involved to achieve the ending it's more likely he ODed.

In Water is sad but at least James is still human. The love is still there.
