No game is ever about graphics, unless if its a graphics technical demo, games evolve to make use of better technologies.
Silent hill 2 was a technical marvel? What did you smoke?
Now, I'll be honest. Silent Hill isn't necessarily about technical visual quality, but what would be the point of remaking SH2 if you're going to downgrade the visuals? We already know for good that nearly everything else will be downgraded by the sheer fact that Blooper lacks the competence of team silent in story writing, atmosphere building, character development, etc. So if even the graphics aren't worth it, what are you even paying for?
Then when you go to buy, you balance the good features with the drawbacks, Whichever has more weight for you, that's where you buy or not.
So if uncanny valley graphics is negative, and then we add morality censors, short length walkthrough and a high price.... ... .. .
Silent Hill 2 and 3 were visually stunning, and two of the best looking games of the whole generation. The team really knew what they were doing, and there was a certain sense of mastery and artistry to the games that has yet to be equalled.
Like it or not the graphics were a big deal and they still are today, so we shouldn't be surprised when players expect a certain quality from such a prestigious franchise. The obvious comparison is to Capcom's Resident Evil remakes and so far they aren't even close to what Capcom achieved 7 years ago with RE7.
Ultimately graphics don't make a game, but when they're noticeably bad or off they can ruin your immersion, especially in a horror game, and especially in a Silent Hill game.
The facial details of 3 still holds up even against todays standards. That game is BEAUTIFUL.
SH4 was never all that impressive though when it comes to graphics.
That said, SH2 Remake mostly looks amazing, I don't get the complaints. The environments are absolutely stunning and most of the characters look very good with amazing facial animations, so far I really only have complaints about Angela, since she's the only exception to what I said above.
And I've always been of the mind that muddier textures and distorted visuals only enhance the atmosphere, especially for SH1.
