Right, so duplicated posts aside...
Bloober is making a lot of unnecessary changes based on the faulty assumption that "modern audiences" are too emotionally fragile or are too stupid and horny to handle certain types of content. They're missing the point of the original character designs and symbolism of the original story in the process, which will reduce the impact of the storytelling by deviating from what was an artfully crafted narrative that made the original SH2 so beloved even after 23 years. They are simply attempting to pander to a statistically insignificant demographic of emotionally immature snowflakes on Twitter in order to make money with their own crappy fan fiction by using the SH2 name.
Yes, is very woke with the new character designs
"Modern Audiences" is a pejorative most of these rage baiters use to insult the modern day video game consumer. Bloober team quoted in behind the scenes "Making it competitive for 2024" Anyone who has played the OG Silent HIll 2 knows how janky it is. Not saying bad, but janky absolutely. And right now the hot ticket is RE remakes, and the 3rd person camera is a reflection of that gameplay. No menu switching to heal or swap weapons, everything is on the fly. And with the recent interview we found out that many button prompts and overlays will have a toggle off option. For example the tap "X" to break a hold. Wasn't present in this recent trailer, but was in the combat trailer.
But as always, If you are in doubt, don't blame it on "woke" tripe, base it on is it a good Silent Hill game, wait for reviews, buy it, refund if you don't like it. Or just be a jolly roger pirate. It's your money/time your choice.
That's the exact problem - poisoning Silent Hill with Resident Evil DNA. Silent Hill camera setup - semi static camera - was always perfect for third person horror. And it allowed for far deeper immersion into horror atmosphere than RE 3rd person OTS camera can EVER achieve. RE 3rd OTS camera is fit only for action, not horror. And recent REmakes of RE2 and RE3 are testament to that.
There are lots of reasons original character sketches are left behind. If you look back on all character sketches for various games you might see tens to even hundreds of different designs that they have gone thru. Yet for some reason the woke devs decided to pick the ones that look like self inserts or are modestly covered up, sure go ahead and believe that. Then also explain why the nurses, who are supposed to represent James pent up sexual frustration, are not as seductive as the original
This is a tweet about the mentioned nurses "censorship" From Masahiro Ito himself. But by all means keep grasping at straws.
I don't think anyone ignores RE series being the last one alive so to speak and it's and RE4 in particular, wide industry impact. The games you mentioned (with the exception of Gears games, which are sort of a further development of Kill Switch game, although devs noted some RE4 impact). The point I'm trying to make that there is another way of doing it, You can't follow the trend forever, there's gotta be a change otherwise stagnation is imminent. Silent Hill name is powerful enough but it is bent to fit the trend. Which is disgusting and insulting. The very first game differed so drastically from Resident Evil, being full 3d with no pre-rendered backgrounds. But having that special semi static camera which players could control to some degree, creating incredible horror experience, unmatched by no game out there even today. I'm not denying there are great horror games on the market. But they aren't Silent Hill, in the end. And Konami's pathetic trend chasing instead of finding creative way to resurrect the franchise puts final nail in its coffin. You may say there are two more games in the series which are planned and may be coming out but we're talking Konami here and it may be scum enough to tie SH2R success to those games' releases. So any potential from No Code and Neobards hangs by thin thread over some deep hole of oblivion. Think about that for a moment. I personally have no hope in those projects - Konami conditioned me, by its epic idiotic actions not to have any hope in whatever they are doing - although they may turned out decent games on their own right. But can they be worth holding Silent Hill name given Konami's potential involvement which by default is bad and is directed only by its greed?
This is the most logical and well thought out post I've ever read on the steam boards
