Why doesn't silent hill 1 have an unofficial pc port yet?

Sure I can just play it on duckstation with 4k, max internal res and overclocked to 60fps with 60fps cheat code but I want straight up mod compatibility.

I want to playthrough the game shooting monsters as Dahlia Gillespie, I want 4k texture packs, I want to toggle Dark and Hell mode for all areas of the game while using an enemy and item randomizer but probably most of all I want the whole city map to be rendered at once.

I could literally go on and on for ages about the possibilities. We already have unofficial pc ports of Mario 64, 3 Zelda games, Jak and Daxter games and very very soon Legend of Dragoon which will be completely glorious.

The game is popular enough so whats holding everybody back from making one of SH 1?

Someone needs to make a decompilation first. Which takes time, and needs dedication to get it done.

SH1 is popular, but its also widely agreed that its very easy to play nowadays, and many argue that its lower resolution adds to the game.

So the big point of an unofficial fan PC port would be for modding

So a remake would just ruin the art style by default, and an unofficial PC port isnt really seen as needed even if it would be good to have

Better yet, there is a decompilation in the works now

(that fan game looks well done. But it’s also not really the thing most want when they want an SH1 on PC. Good fan game, but not what the series should be doing officially)

We got Tomb Raider from them and now OG Resident Evil so Silent Hill is certainly within their capabilities.

So getting GOG to do it would be very rare. They usually just fix PC ports that already existed. Like RE or Tomb Raider

Technically the Resident Evils aren't actual PC Ports either so they can do it.

The RE1 GOG is the original PC port. So it’s easy to assume that the next two will be as well.
