Yes, the original design he was more "lean" I don't mean "bulky" I mean he lost definition, he's for sure too smooth.
that's another reason the design bothers me, he's not intimidating at all, I wouldn't think twice about tackling this guy, the pyramid from the original game looked "wrong" it wasn't quite a man, and you could tell that just by looking.
As for him being intimidating I never got that from the original character. I don't think he's supposed to intimidate you but rather "weird you out" like the other enemies. You're afraid of him but not because he's intimidating. Keep in mind too that in your first encounter with this guy he utterly fails at posing a threat simply because he is visibly struggling with carrying the greatsword (the same way as James does wink-wink). So he ditches that for a spear and that's when he can actually hurt you.
Also: buffing up PH for the remake would introduce an aspect of masculinity into the narrative that was never really part of it. Essentially it would make the symbolism a bit "woke" by suggesting that James' toxic masculinity had something to do with the game's premise. He is absolutely not the character who's struggling with that, he is also not homosexual where a "beautifullly muscular" PH could represent him being in the closet etc. = there is no reason for PH to be buffed up. He is a reflection on James so you know, he should reflect him.
But for example if the game was about Eddie = a character who has problems with his body image (as suggested by the posters in the room you first find him in) then Pyramid Head should look like a buffed out steroid junkie. Eddie is a fat kid bullied by football players, his Pyramid Head should absolutely reflect that.
I disagree with everything you wrote for the most part.
pyramid head is masculine, as it's part of james, so that's a non-argument.
pyramid head being lean, isn't to suggest he was attractive, it was low body fat and pale/dead looking, I don't know where you're drawing this sexual objectionable from in your point, I'm not looking to make pyramid head "attractive" I'm not looking to have pyramid head walk around as attractive figure of masculinity, but rather a executioner with some vascularity who looks rather other wordily, pale, some blue veins popping out, that doesn't mean beautiful or even well shaped with big muscles.
And he is supposed to move as though it's difficult and maybe even painful, but with a strength behind it, thus the dragging of the sword, and weird supernatural moments despite the "weakness"
And he isn't just a guy in a helmet, he has attack animation where a supernatural tongue slides out of his helmet and touches you, if that's not enough lets mention the cancer like growth hanging out of his helmet behind his head.
Honestly who the flying ♥♥♥♥ cares about this? Like what do you want, more veins? :D You really going to argue that you don't agree with the value of his body fat percentage and ♥♥♥♥ like that? :D
I put quotation marks there to indicate that he is "some dude" in that he is not a giant monster but clearly built like a regulat human. So yeah, I didn't mean that he's actually human.
For ♥♥♥♥'s sake language barriers are annoying.
Fully disagree with you, even though I understand what you're saying.
don't worry about that, I lived in places where I had to learn the language.
My points stand, he should look more imposing and otherworldly, but I see too many people justifying things that were done BETTER in a game as old as silent hill 2.
and the argument that it doesn't have to be exactly the same or the excuse that "the bad graphics left something to the imagination" isn't a excuse either, look at the new games that are OUT not to mention other games coming out sooner with detailed creatures.
Plenty of people have issues with james face, oddly enough I think it's fine, but pyramid head is actually one of my biggest issues with this remake for me, with the graphical power of unreal 5 engine and they can't break even let alone improve on the original concept of the older version at all.
I honestly hope it's a sign that the game textures and models aren't finished, I suspect as much, but if they are.... well I guess I will wait until modders fix my gripes with the game, so regardless it'll be fixed for everyone personal preference, that is one good thing about the unreal engine.
Now all that said, the product isn't out, and it's still in the making, but I encourage everyone who has issues with what they see to articulate it in detail and post about it, because otherwise they'll feel as if it's ok to release it as is.
I do share the opinion that the last scene in the trailer seems a bit unpolished, like PH seems to be colored a bit wrong and it kind of looks like a trailer shot you won't see in the game. I can't even identify which part of the game that's from, maybe when he pushes you down the roof of the hospital? He's entering the building though.
I don't think we've seen enough of him to have much of an opinion on him yet. (I also think they shouldn't have shown him at all, but I'm not Konami PR, so what do I know?)

This just looks perfect, hopefully this is how he'll end up looking in the finished game too.
