100% I thought this the second it was announced they were making silent hill 2 remake.
Normally I wouldn't actually entertain the idea, but I think they'll focus harder on this than any other title, and in fact knew they would all along.
Unfortunately, Konami does not actually care whether a developer can capture the style and tone of Silent Hill.
I kind of hope that through all these projects they gained some connections to Japanese studios so they were among the choices available, looking at other projects involving japan and the west it seems like it's really hard for them to communicate (or they're just really stuck up, could be both really). I am not biased specifically against any other studio, I think even other Japanese devs will have trouble recreating the same tone
My thoughts exactly. Also they did work with unreal engine 4 and it seems like new layers of fear game will run on unreal engine 5, so they've got the technical expertise too. Though I have a sneaking suspicion that they will try to make it more "cinematic" (and fail probably), I mean to this point if all they looked up to is "playable teaser" (and not the source material, basically prototype, minimal gameplay, hints of story and location but not the actual game) they could think that that's all silent hill is.
Man, you've got the kind of hate for this company that makes me think you're an ex employee or something. They're really not that bad. They're also not writing the game, just adapting it to UE5 and updating the gameplay and mechanics.
They'll do fine, trust me. Or, it'll be inadequate and you can rest easy knowing that fools like me spent our hard earned money on the game while you were smart enough to avoid it because no one put a gun to your head and forced you to buy it.
Silent Hill has its inspirations, but it either hides those inspirations well, or it has an interesting enough interpretation of them.
Bloober just wholesale copies ♥♥♥♥ without nuance.
I have no idea what I'm suppose to be seeing here.
Neither of these are shovelware. It's incredibly disingenuous to compare either of these to Bloober's catalog.
Layers of Fear 2 released in 2019, dude.
I guarantee you they're rewriting portions of the script. They're also recreating cutscenes to have worse cinematography, directing, and acting. They're changing the art style, tone, and atmosphere of the game. They're removing the curated camera angles of the original in favor of an over the shoulder camera. They're also toning down the puzzles; and I promise you, they're going to fill the game with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ modular puzzles on the level of hacking minigames.
I'm not sure why people keep saying this in reference to a developer responsible for some of the worst ♥♥♥♥ in the genre.
Much like Demon's Souls, a bad remake is taking the place of a proper remaster.
