Fixed camera?
Or over the shoulder? Tbh, i hate fixed camera because that means a lesser degree of control over the protagonist movement

It is over-the-shoulder, yes. They wouldn't risk alienating the normies by keeping things true to the original.
Whaa?
Silent Hill never had fixed camera, in a way RE did.
SH1-4 was 90% chase cam in the overworld, interior corridors and larger rooms, 9% semi-fixed cam when entering smaller rooms to prevent camera clipping into walls in tight quarters, and 1% fancy cinematic transitions you could consider a RE'sque fixed cam.
Anyway over the shoulder camera is lazy af
the original used a mixture of both, the places where it used fixed cameras were mainly to provide dutch angles. the way the fixed cams were used was more cinematic but only really works with tank controls which everyone hates nowadays

It did in some specific rooms. Its a mixture of both.

i'm honestly surprised this thread even exists. Claiming that SIlent Hill only uses fixed camera angles is quite ignorant. There is even a button on the gamepad solely reserved to manipulate the camera. I think these people either never even played a SIlent Hill game before because they just heard about the series and think its just a RE clone, or they concept of fixed caera angle is just wrong.

In fact, the camera is slightly tilted to the player's shoulder in the originals when you're running through corridors, so you can see the monsters:

Yeah it also used fixed camera angles to troll you as well in certain areas been a while since I have played so I can't recall all instances of it this is something you can't do with over the shoulder also I think fixed camera is a lost art in my opinion.

Fixed camera in Silent Hill? Shows that people haven't actually played the games in recent memory.

Even in the first game you could control the camera with the L2 button. Compared to the pre-rendered backgrounds of Resident Evil, Silent Hill was fully 3D and totally took advantage of that.

Sorry guys, but I prefer being in full control of the protagonist...the immersion goes out the window as soon as I start to struggle with the freakin' tank controls...so yeah OTS is perfect for me 👍🏻

I wonder how you managed Resident Evil 4 as that game uses both OTS camera angle and tank controls lol

I hope fixed cameras are an option, or at least able to be modded in. Fixed cameras provide such a more atmospheric experience

I could agree with you on that one, but from an 'immersive' standpoint i think it's...well...not that good...whenever i played games with fixed camera i felt more like an observer and less like a protagonist...hope it makes sense what i wrote
It was supposed to feel that way, like James is being watched.

By who? :D I have already heard this claim about the fixed cameras style. But by who is James being watched? It´s not like there are surveillance cameras all around the place. :D Actually, the only person who is watching James, is just you. So you are being scared of you?
Fixed camera made the game far more terrifying, because you couldnt see what was in the corner of the room, or what was coming.. Over the shoulder lets you be able to see everything which kills the intensity, and mystery. But im sure game will still be good.

youre sure it will still be good based on what exactly? your gut feeling or based on the developers previous works?

Because it worked in the other games. All they would have to do is put the cameras in the same place it was for the original.
