Dogs broken
I keep dying to dogs attacking me and somehow getting directly under my character, making it really hard to hit them, and they just destroy my health in a couple seconds. Please fix this. I'm really tired of losing great runs to finding myself standing on top of a dog suddenly while it kills me in 3 bites.

Yea, dogs are broken, but in the exact opposite way - they are too weak now after 0.9.13. They used to be much stronger (and glitchy, could launch themselves across the room), now you can strafe or walk up on them for a moment, and they lose their jump range completely, which can be easily abused, and right now it's easier to kill them with the sword rather than shooting their unstable hitbox. Devs already stated that it's not normal, and dogs will get a buff when they figure out how to fix their ai.
You have to learn how to counter them, they're definitely not becoming any weaker ever.
If by "directly under your character" you're talking about units clipping through terrain and hitting you, yea, this should be fixed, it's a known issue

Yeah and I've noticed they'll sometimes get 'stuck' and just sit there staring at you. Kinda a bummer to snipe a docile animal like that!

Regarding OP, I can always hear dogs barking from the next room. Are people muting the game, eating a bunch of powerbars and trying to silent speedrun stages? Barring that or the floor clipping bug, I can't fathom how one would find themselves suddenly standing on top of a dog.

Simplest advice is to learn from your mistakes, learn each enemy's behavior, and slow down. Don't forget you can eat Rodsopp Paste to slow down time in a pinch. There are also grenades and weapon configs that are helpful for taking on crowds of enemies if you are finding yourself overwhelmed.

I've also noticed that when dogs leap at you, they sometimes end up being directly under your character. They're not stuck in the ground, it's just like you stood on top of them.
I found the easiest way out of this is quick repositioning.

I have never taken damage from a dog. Life must be tough for you.
The dogs landing underneath you is an issue. I've had quite a few late game runs ended due to this even with adding a health potion/eating food. Once they are underneath you it deals quite a bit of damage. I understand the concept of be strategic/tactical but sometimes you get cornered, and it just isn't possible.

no, I'm not talking about them clipping, I'm talking about them leaping at you and suddenly you're literally standing on top of several dogs who kill you almost instantly. It's happened to me at least 5 times. Y'all can make your "git gud" comments if you like but this is just no fun like this.

Enemies do interact with your sprite, aka they can bodyblock you and stuff, if you jump, you can land on top of them. I think something like that is unavoidable, since to fix that they must make MC's hitbox something like a column, so nothing can get on top and underneath.
Personally, I never had this problem happen, cause I just move too much, especially around dogs

Is the game supposed to be easy ? I think not.
if youre encountering pack of dogs during your early runs in caves while still using dirk then i can understand your frustration. dogs are simply annoying because they are faster, smaller (also quite inconsistent hitbox at times?) targets which mean harder to hit, and somehow hits like a truck too. i can only offer you a few tips on dealing with them:

1. Kiting is king
seriously, no matter how much you hate to do this, the game in this state simply begs you to do this. guns dont penetrate, corpses blocks your bullets, and enemies can be pouring in ridiculous numbers at once. always retreat if you get overwhelmed, if youre using weapons that give mov. speed malus, ready your sword while youre running to the back. if youre cornered, run past them instead, since a lot of enemies only give you damage when they attack, which has a wind-up time that is easily avoidable.

2. Shotgun is your friend.
im not glazing shotguns just because i love my mossman, but really, 12 gauge is just so good currently. since current enemies have no armour (except the giant goblin and the masked men?), 12 gauge with their sheer total damage and lack of precision aiming requirement, theyre simply the best for dispatching anything quickly and that includes dogs. you can even make your shotguns deadly at long range with oils that doesnt apply bullet drop because for some reason the regular 12 gauge pellets have no bullet drops as far as i can see. you can of course, use smg or AR for the same role, but i found 12 ga to be the most economy efficient.

3. grenade for emergency
something that people often forget (including me) is that grenades exist. too much pressure? pop one out. i found frag grenades to be the best because they actually send shrapnel instead of just explosions which means better range and killzone.

Jump-Strafing backwards works with dogs and jumpy cultists.
Anyway, when you get to the town you should start to really work on your weapons
You need a mid-long ranged weapon that deals decent damage and a close ranged weapon that just decimates things, otherwise the game will be a nightmare.

I think 90% of the deaths in this game are dogs. I had my armor +40 and a huge dog ran up to me at the speed of light and I was dead after 2 bites from max health. It lasted only 2 seconds. Unless the dogs are nerfed or the armor effects become more powerful, I don't plan on playing this game for a while. High difficulty is not the same as unreasonable.

Currently Splitting elites deal 300% dmg (that's not normal and either should be fixed, or the armor needs to be optimized on different items), so for a dog its around 20x3=60. With 40 armor thats 36hp, so from full it's at least 3 hits.
Splitting elites are really dangerous rn, but they are also slower than regular units, so you have some space to maneuver.

I don’t care what anyone says they’re broken, it’s not about it being hard, it’s about it being broken, they have immunity when jumping and their jump range is massive.
how can you kite them when they jump that fast/far? They just jump circles around you doing damage

Currently it feels like you need to plough a 100 hours in caves just to be able to even consider town, the amount of times I’ve spent ages of time and money building for town to just be decimated by a dog.

We all want a challenging game but the dogs are making me not want to play it, dying to any other enemy feels fine (so far) but the dogs feel completely broken
