SULFUR
Feature request: "Insurance"
Gotta say, I love the game so far. I've reached the castle but was running low on everything so I immediately warped out (and was disappointed that there was no new starting point for it :conwayfacepalm:). There are definitely a lot of things that I could suggest that need improvements and tweaks, but...

FEATURE REQUEST: "INSURANCE"
Why not let the smuggler merchant sell us "Insurance"? Base value 3k to buy, another drag-and-drop item that you apply to equipment (ie, weapons or armour), if you die the item will be in the church mailbox (broken or at original or half durability) and won't be accounted for the "pity money" it would pay out.

I believe this feature does NOT diminish the spirit of the game. I presume that most people, such as I am doing, are likely running previous areas for getting funds or items for their actual pushes. Sometimes you do have a great weapon but get swarmed or something unexpected happens and death is inevitable, but then you're most likely going to go through the process of gathering more funds and level some weapon you have in your stash again before you make another push; "Insurance" would just help relieve this process slightly.

Balancing and tweaking the feature could be done later if the implementation is at least punishing enough that people aren't always using it, such as perhaps (in the case of weapons) also losing a level and a random enchant to prevent you from just having a permanent "god tier" weapon.

I understand that perhaps this feature isn't part of the vision for the game. But at the same time it's not like good weapons are readily available usually. Weapon variety isn't the best at the moment and it is significant how unlikely you are to get "something cool" instead of yet-another 9mm low tier gun, at least I feel that is the case for me. If weapons dropped more readily and/or leveled and/or sometimes with random enchants (if leveled) it would give incentives to play the game as a "pure" rogue-like, in a sense. But, again, as it is...? "Insurance" solves a current problem, I feel like.

Others feel free to drop their opinions. Looking forward to the future updates!

I don't see a point in insurance when we can press a button to warp out whenever we want, and the old man can refill the amulet for a nominal fee. Why pay to save just some of your stuff when you could save all of it?

If you want better drops then wear the luck gear, including elf shoes and the Santa hat, and keep 6 to 10 grand on you so you can buy some of the rarer weapons occasionally offered by Stiffleg and Skrips. Don't underestimate the pistols either; they are great for looting runs because you can swap them out for a bigger gun to save space for looting.

Maybe I'm not as skilled as you are. I find that often (especially if I don't have a good body armour) some enemy groups can maul your entire health in less than 2 seconds, namely those jumping cultists + dogs combos in the Dungeon maps, which as other people point out weapons with high fire rate seem to be the most viable solution. If you die, what good is having the unused option to warp out? You literally lost everything: the time it takes for the amulet dialogue to pop up and time to freeze you'll be dead instead in those situations.

I accept that it may be a personal skill issue here, but...! You are giving credence to my point that others are also grinding out easier places to farm for "desirable" weapons level them + use oils on them. My suggestion is still probably useful in my eyes given the situations I'm describing.

If the time-to-freeze when you grab the amulet was instant? Yes: I 100% agree that it would ALWAYS be the right and only option to make in desperation. But, even the text must be mashed to make it end faster; I still stand by the value of my suggested mechanic.

Spoiler warning
I saw "Insurance" on developer mode.
It seems to be a weapon enchantment.
It may be added in the future.
