Losing everything on death is super disruptive to the experience
Write me off if you want to, but so far the single biggest thing that's completely killed any momentum I've had is losing all of my stuff on death. I've put a few hours in, and while so far I'm really digging this game, this has been the one thing that makes me not want to pick the game back up again. Now, I understand making death meaningful, and I'm totally fine with losing whatever isn't equipped, but if my weapons are forfeit every time I die that's not conducive to trying out new builds/set ups because I don't know if it's going to let me survive. I feel further discouraged from using any of the cool guns I pick up because once again, I don't want to lose them. I feel like it pigeon-holes people into leaning on the default weapon. Finally, if I lose all of my good equipment, I can't return to wherever I currently am because I'll get wiped out due to lack of power.

TL;DR - We should only lose whatever isn't equipped when we die.

Theres already insurance in the game. go to the old man and pay to have your amulet charged. if you ever feel like your gonna die just leave?

or you could just horde like alot of people tdo till you can run anything you want :)

I know this is too little too late, but you can store weapons, ammo, money, etc before going out on runs. I will say, I had a devastating death where I lost about 150000 coins and thousands of rounds of ammunition + weapons and armor I had on me. So I am not unfamiliar with the brutality of this game. This, however, did not stop me. Losing big was painful in the moment, but allowed me to build back up, which was fun on its own. You do get the mercy of the collection box, which did give me a big kickback after my devastating loss. I have actually only ever died three times I believe, once early, once in the town, and once in the dungeon in over 100 hours of game play. Careful play and good builds can mitigate much of the danger.

After a while you get alot better, extraction games like this force you to be better to engage with the game, at first its certainly off putting but eventually other games wont do it for you any more because the stakes are real, theres no crutch.

keep at it, also start using the sword alot, do some sword only runs with nothing at all and itll let you build up a cushion of resources.

" if you ever feel like your gonna die just leave?"

What if - And hear me out - you hit the prompt to 'escape' but the mobs kill you through the loading screen?

It's really not, it's part of the core gameplay loop. Run the caves a bunch of times, get health items, get items, prepare for tougher levels. You're asking the game to change it's core mechanics, when really you should be just finding a different game to play.

My request is "save on exit," that way people can resume their run from the current room. All mechanics stay the same, it just allows people to play in 5-10 minute increments instead of 30-40.

yea i just hate the mechanic of, ok im literally just not gunna die now cause its the worst thing. instead of dealing with death in different ways every so often. Thats way more fun to me.

If we removed the one and only consequence of death I feel like we would be slowly working our way to turning this game into another braindead shooter that you just keep reloading a stage over and over playing as if you recently got a lobotomy until you get lucky instead of actually learning how to counter the enemies and/or growing your arsenal. Sure, there is an audience for that kind of game but I feel like that isn't the kind of game the devs want, and certainly not what the intended audience for said game wants.

Yes that would be bad and make this game about as fun and challenging as tic-tac-toe, but if this discussion board has taught me anything, it's that "lobotomized" is what these people want. No challenge, just flashing colors and dopamine. As a species, we are doomed.

A lot of people suggesting things like this don't want the game to be easier, if that's the case Dark Souls and Bloodborne are easy games.. They just want more from the game loop than, play safe, amulet out. Especially late game 1000 coins to recharge the amulet is pitifully easy. There's tons of ways improve it I think that's what they're begging for.

This guy gets it. It's not that the game shouldn't be hard, it's that there should be a challenge that feels more... genuine. Something where the answer isn't just "well grind the beginning level until you have everything". I fully expect to run a level a few times, but if I get kicked in the face, which inevitably happens in games like this, I shouldn't have to backtrack big chunks of progress in order to pick up where I left off. I would even settle for having armor and gun levels stripped in addition to inventory, but hoarding shouldn't be the answer.

Its an extraction game, almost the entire point is the heightened risk and the love of hoarding.

I would ask for the devs to take a stage out of the caverns so runs can be closer to 30 mins rather then 45-60 depending on run speed and whether you need to cook within the leve or not. i get worn down by the time im past the tali recharge station.

This is an important point. Just to offer up another point to those here, another thing that exists in other extraction games is periodic wipes; as in everything you've collected in your storage is gone. They tell you beforehand, but it happens. Nothing I've read about Sulfur has mentioned this, just something to be aware of going forward.

If this happens you are choosing to bail waaaaaay too late. I've decided to bail and been left at one hp on more occasions than I can count on my hand. Don't greed, make your mind up and just get out, so much better than losing a dope kit.
