Or, as an alternative: maybe have the melee weapon be a meta-progression that you unlock options for in the church so there's something other than the stash and getting new levels that you invest in outside of the runs.

One thing that *must* be fixed is when holding the melee button again while the swing animation plays, the gun should *not* ready itself, that makes multiple melee swings so awkward! if I'm pressing the melee button, while in a melee animation, my intent will always be to melee again.

OR a sword that can slice enemies that are mid-air in half (Gory and effective)
there should be nothing to "miss". pressing the melee button multiple times should not randomly jump to >>GUN?<< whether idly smashing barrels or getting mobbed.
