The ingredients for a good game are here, and you can feel that the developer put their soul into it, but sadly the result is just ultimately not fun.
Note how the reviews in the description all mention the "upcoming" game, meaning they're based on the demo. I liked the demo and I was anticipating the main game, but the demo ends at around the same time the main game becomes boring, with lots of backtracking through samey looking locations and running past non-threatening monsters.

A rather welcome surprise, Hollowbody is a succinct and frequently horrifying and disturbing (in multiple levels) survival-horror game. The worse I can say about the game is that the combat is sort of janky, some of the voice acting is not good, limited enemy variety, and I feel like the PS2 graphics could have been more PS2-y as it looked a bit too current at times.

Everything else?

Between good and fantastic.

The narrative and plot all make sense and the post credits stinger is fascinating. You're drip fed interesting details that all coalesce into a surprisingly cohesive narrative without it feeling dumbed down, confusing, or obscure; perfect amount of showing and telling. It manages to tell a story about relatively mundane problems and topics that we've all experienced at some point or have heard of but through the lens of a speculative horror game.

Atmosphere is horribly good, and while it sort of tapers off at the end (which I believe it might be intended, more on that soon) I still found it effective. Without spoilers, the game manages to communicate a lot about the main character the further you go in, at times going through some really interesting gameplay bits that make horror games special; interactivity ultimately being used to its full potential to express themes through gameplay. That is why I believe that the game is supposed to be less scary the further you delve into it, the player and the MC are getting used to everything as the puzzles and progress starts changing around a certain part of the game.

Hollowbody is an obvious recommendation to anyone who is interested in horror games that are about style, substance, survival-horror gameplay, and socioeconomic themes.
