don't get me wrong, some people use them right, but when ya use them to hunt down elves for no reason, jesus, deserve's a crossbow bolt right between their eyes...
Giants hunting down elves for no reason? The onus is really on the "victim" for turning on EvG PvP in the first place (and keeping it on). They knew the risks and went along with it.
To answer the question, I don't see much giant players on my server (Ruairi), but the few I come across are godly powerful. Knew a giant who singlehandedly took down the G8 dragon boss using just fighter skills. He didn't even get hit once. Shame about the lack of clothing options though. Giants really get gimped on that part, but other than that, pretty much most of the giants I've come across are pretty badass.
Humans > Elf melee / Giant (non-existant) ranged
Easy Difficulty
Giant Melee > Human Melee
Mid Difficulty
Elf Ranged > Human Ranged
LEGENDARY Difficulty
For an expanded explanation, keep reading
humans are the super well rounded race in mabinogi, i'd imagine most of the balancing done revolves almost entirely around them, they're "good" at everything but they're not "great" at anything, as jack of all trades, humans are capable of adapting to any situation and is generally the easiest race to get into (at least, in my opinion)
giants are the brutal in your face kind of race that loves to beat down on anything that comes within range of their fists of whatever weapon they happen to be holding, they're great at dealing a massive amount of damage at close range, they are, however, lacking in the ranged department, they don't have access to the archer talent at all, and they use up more mana to cast spells than any of the other races, giants start off strong and stay consistently strong right up until the end
elves are the masters of ranged combat, and although they're the go-to race if you love attacking at a distance, they're still very capable of taking enemies head on with melee, elves in mabinogi are the fastest runners out of the three playable races, they can run circles around most enemies with ease, combine that with their ability to run while aiming and you end up with the ultimate kiters, while elves don't get the ability to dual wield, they instead have access to dual shots every time they use their ranged attacks, in terms of magic, elves have the highest mp and int growth which means more mana to cast spells with and more damage to dish out damage with said spells, elves are the weakest race to start off with initially, but with plenty of time and investment they turn into deadly long ranged killers easily capable of matching or even surpassing humans and giants with their high powered long ranged attacks
well, that should cover everything,
also as a side note, when i say elves need alot of time and investment, i really do mean A LOT, you'll need a dex stat of about 900 or more with heavily upgraded gear to reach the point where your able to match/surpass a giant or human of equal stats and gear, and it is not easy gaining that much dex, if you've already started playing you'll probably know how much effort is needed to gain even just 10 dex
900 dex too surpass humans and giants? not alot of people even have over 500. my experiance? played since beta. 7.9k human. 4.1k giant. 3k elf. Human: falcondor-Tarlach
Giants can learn magic but magic skills cost more mp to use than with the other races. Giants currently lack a solid ranged attack. Throwing attack is underapreciated even though it can become quite powerful. However, once gunner is released, the issue of range will be nonexistant since they rely on strength and int values for damage.
Personally, I'd start the game and play through the tutorials as a human. I'm pretty sure you can still get a free elf and giant for siding with the other races.
