Not most, but some.
A lot of kids these days don't really know the difficulty curve of games a long time ago, and I'm not old enough to even say I played some back then.
I sorta understand why the older gamers gets fed up with the younger ones. >_>
Wanna know another old fashioned game I still have memories of?
Dransik and the 2d RPG with similar freedoms like Mabinogi. Now Ashen Empires with microtransaction and such, it's still crappy because they seem to restrict you somewhat and the server is annoyingly laggy with lag spikes (worse worse worse worse than mabinogi).
I liked the farming, blacksmithing, cooking, alchemy, magic, tailoring, combat - part of the game in that, since you rank up exp by doing actions (like shooting a cow with a arrow ranks up archery and bow proficiency).
The game had a faction and criminal system so if you get killed by town guards, you teleport to jail... Or just die within 1 hit or something because you are a noob.
It actually had a 'atmosphere' like the elder scrolls come to think of it.
Night time shrinks your vision and you need torches to venture thru dungeons, etc.
Graphically is like ultima online, but slightly better and more updated graphics and better animations.
With ultima online i've played private shards, the housing and construction is neat, not many games that offers free access lets you build a house in any shape and lets you craft furnitures and put them where ever you want in the house.
I'd say that Megumi Tensei mmo thing where they try to mimic Mabinogi's combat style but fails...
My friend who plays mabi told me to try that game with him and I got fed up with it within a hour.
I dont care if its a bug, if a game says 100% to hit... you shouldn't miss. If they didnt mean for it to not be able to miss, then they simply should not put 100% to hit but something like 95% as there is still that 5% miss chance.
I went into the options and had already turned off the auto attack.
At least monster hunter didnt lose your attacks due to lag or other game bugs. If you swing and hit a mob then you do it damage and not somehow miss at 100% to hit.
I finished the tutorial and had teleported to the town and found that I had trouble killing the grey wolves that is the first thing that you can fight.
Noone wants to play a game that does not allow you to fight back while in combat. I played the tutorial and know the basics of the game and had killed the newbie mobs in the starter area, but during the real combat against some mobs way south of the intro area I noticed that sometimes my attacks were ignored, but when I went to the first area after using the teleport item I found that I would get killed BECAUSE of the game constantly ignoring my attacks.
When you die 5 times in a row in 20 min because of the same bs of while fighting and the attack not registering in the game... then its a crap game and time to quit as its not worth the time or effort and fustration.
I like trying new games and testing them out to see if they are any good or not. Ive tried this game and have found it lacking, and created this post to warn new players that they may not like this game and also put the reasons why I do not like this game as is.
If you dont like that and have a problem with it... then thats on you. I personally wont put anymore time into the game as it just doesnt work (archery char with a sword alt weapon).
I would pull and weaken with a bow shot (I forgot the skill name but it helps to do more damage with melee... then magnum shot it then basic double shoot it, and if it got close switch to melee and counter it, use finish move (or whatever to jump attack a downed enemy) and try to close in and melee it to death.
My char was level 20-21 but didnt have any new armor and or weapons other then the basic bow and wooden sword as I will never put money in a game that hasnt proven itself to me first.
This game doesnt let you know what level mobs are... so you kinda have to just wing it and slap it around to find out if you can take it or not (the game doesnt tell you anything about this as I did go through the battle training and stuff like that, but other then that the game doesnt really give you a direction to go to.
What I was trying to do was to earn a little gold by doing some easy quests that you buy for like 20, but found that you cant even do that very easy, and what makes it even harder to do them is when your attacks dont work or hit even if your charged up to 100%.
@Kai
Im not some kid noob as ive been playing for along time. I just found this game lacking as to me... if it says 100% to hit... then it shouldnt miss. If its a bug or some type of lag glitch then its still not excusible as how can someone play a game if it doesnt give you a chance to fight back? Just try to attack with 80% and miss more then you hit?
Personally when I am learning how to play a new game I play solo so as not to annoy older players so that I at least know how to do the basic fighting and things... and as I made the char up to level 20-21 I dont think that my char was as worthless as it seemed when I was at the first area. If the quest that I bought and was trying to complete was some type of group quest... then I really think that it should have been stated in game as such.
O and did you do any quests? Generation quests are the things that give people direction, since you are complaining about lack of direction... It is in your quest list, something called rescue the villager (this is the start of it).
as someone pointed out... pass lvl 100 total then consider yourself graduated from noob status. Pass 300 lvls, consider yourself somewhat experienced. (20 lvls takes 30-45 minutes, takes 5-10 minutes for an older player who knows what they are doing with sufficiently strong character, maybe if you were really lost and just wandering about aimlessly then it could take you 2-3 hrs to reach it)
Regardless, as a summary of this game that i posted, it is either you can look pass the bugs, lag, and adapting to new combat or not. Since this game have bugs you cannot tolerate then thats it for this game and you, nothing wrong with it.
If more people needs to read through the exact good and bads of this game, read my post "game is not for everyone, decide for yourself" which is just compiling what people said about this game. Truth is, pretty good game and plagued with bugs and lag that breaks it for too many people. People who played a long time are 95% on and off players because of the #10 in the bads section. But since game keep updating fresh materials, a lot of people keeps coming back.
G1 quest is in Goddess tab of quest menu. Its a good direction to start with.
Bows have aiming glitches. Monsters can sometimes move away from the bows range and the shot will automatically miss.
The game does let you know how strong mobs are. You will see "weakest", "weak", "strong", "awful", and "boss" besides their name.
If you want to safely practice you bow timing and whatnot, go kill foxes. It like the easiest mobs in the game. If it still kills you, at least you get a title for you troubles. If your gonna kill wolves, don't start with the white ones in the south. At least start with the brown ones neat the moon gate.
Compared to how I learned to play the game six years ago (and yes, I'm well aware it was released in english in 2008, not 2006, thank you very much), these tutorials couldn't be any better at teaching you the basics about skills and how you shouldn't mash the left mouse button until you die (and you WILL die trying that).
That, or this game is just not for you and you can go back to your generic tab target hotkey spam fest.
EDIT: I believe the free unlimited rebirths are until total level 100, which is also when your "aspiring whatever" title goes away. Also, gray wolves are weaker than normal brown dire wolves, though brown dire wolf cubs are probably the weakest of all wolf mobs in the game.
If he still can't understand it from observation or trial and error, he's probably doing it wrong or learning impaired.
My guildie from the forum I frequent learned on his own and all I did is answer his questions about what he didn't understand.
Trial and error is part of this game. It's not like you lose anything valuable from dying this early in the game.
I tried to kill a bear once and got one hit killed and stoped playing with them. I was killing the ghosts or whatever in the intro area and thats how I leveled my char up to 20 or so.
I only had about 10k and was trying to find a way to get more so I took the low 20 gold quest to try to get more cash for that first armor Leather that cost like 60k.
@ raptor
Learn to read... that or take the time to actually read someones posts.
1) My char was level 20-21.
2) I am not button mashing or I wouldnt be talking about the game stating 100% to hit and the game losing my attack.
3) I did the basic training quests that the intro NPC gives you (melee, bow, and the other training about counters/smash skills)
@majikero
Unlike you I dont just try to insult people for no reason. Thats what adults do... try growing up alittle.
If you want to have a discussion like real people then you dont just post snide little snits like you have. Actually try to put in some points on why your view is that way, and not just try to post your little insults.
How can there be trial and error when the game randomly deletes attacks when it states that the attack is at 100%? And this is not when pulling but during combat when attacks have already hit. As stated before in earlier posts (if you bothered to read it) states that I pull using the 3rd bow skill that makes melee damage do more damage, then using mag shot, then depending on how close it is... I pull back before using mag shot again or if its hp is low enough I just use the weaker bow shot.
Maybe due to lag spikes it messed up my shooting... but that doesnt excuse the reason why this game isnt worth playing... it actually supports my reasoning on why this game isnt worth the time to play.
I understand that if you shoot before 100% that you can miss shots and have no problem with that as I was messing around with different timings during attacks... but when I noticed that my 100% to hit shots kept missing when my timing is on... then that points to the system not working as it should.
I even tested by pressing the button before it was quite 100% and getting the lag so that the game reflects my attack right as it hit 100% with a full miss. I found that the game gave me about 0.2 - 0.4 lag as my button presses in real time dont get reflected in game, and trying to time it so that on screen the char would attack when as it reports 100% to hit and it still misses.
The game makes the gfx of char attacking with sound effects but the attack still gets lost.
Ive played a few Nexon games and have found that they all have issues with them. I will most likely just avoid all Nexon games from now on.
I find nothing wrong with wiki... but why should you have to go onto wiki just to learn the basics of a game? I personally did the beginner quests...
I did the weapon training bow and melee... didnt get the magic training as I think you need some type of yellow stone or something to get those.
I went to the other healer type char and did the mount quest thing.
The next quest I got was to use the teleportation item... but didnt do that and started going out and playing around with the foxes and other trash mobs... then went north east of the intro area to look around... then went clockwise to explore... found the ghosts and killed them for a while... then went farther south to find bears and get spanked... at that point I was got around 20 so I figured I should just use the teleport wing looking thing and restart on the basic quests.
I needed money so I tried to do the gray wolf quest and found that my attacks started to not register...
The thing is.. its not constant. Sometimes I hit with 100% sometimes I dont... and that is what is pissing me off. Its too inconsistant maybe due to lag spikes but to keep dieing because of this and not being able to get money with out paying real money is bs.
If the bow doesn't work you you try something else. You don't have to force yourself.
Also, if you want armor, go do the Generation 1 quest, at some point, it gives you the official noob armor. Wear it with pride and show Erin your Noobishness!
Heres a nice idea for what to do with your first bit of gold.
Human - leather long bow or crossbow + 2 wooden sword.
Giants - Any 2H weapon~15k iish or sword + shield.
Elves - Guardian bow/leather long bow + mace + shield.
Take classes for magic with lassar in tir school for all 3 races, its useful. Total should cost a beginner roughly 20k-30k gold to be set for gears and basic spells. (I do solo ciar int runs with my brand new char starting at lvl 30 with the gears stated above, only skill windmil r8! rest of my skills at rF)
Unless you can only attribute to pay to win... yes you can pay to look rediculously awesome... but really you cannot pay to win. Plz name me one thing in the item shop that you can "pay to win" except for maybe 100 fine reforges used to get 1 of your equipment to the perfect stat (sry i doubt anyone is that extreme yet, even so i got pass without any of those BEFORE they nerfed the crap out of the mobs in the story line quests.. and they are nerfing it again tomorrow lol...). Rest of items are just cause you want to look cooler/progress faster/have more storage.
Sry i cannot overlook people's ignorant comment about pay to win.
I had basic starter gear shirt/chest armor boots and the bow... found a wooden sword... got up to level 20 and grounded up 10k gold, still not enough for any good gear as far as I could tell, and I was trying to earn more cash but would die in one 3 hit combo from the wolves that or I would try to run and they would catch up... I would try to attack but would somehow miss or the game would delete/ignore my 100% attacks maybe due to lag but thats still game problem...
I said pay to win because how else would you be able to earn money with out paying real money if you cant even kill the easier mobs in that area? What keep killiing worthless spiders and getting the webbing and selling a stack of 10 for 1 gold?
BAH Im done with nexon games... they just want to force you to pay them real money so you dont just waste all your time running back and forth from respawn point to hunting point.
That was the whole reason why I kept the melee weapon and put that into the mix of playing... but too many times my char would die because of some glitch or bug and I would have to waste so much time healing or getting back to the hunting location that I feel its just a waste of time.
I always play solo due to me not liking to have to deal with other players, such as loot drop and distribution, in fighting, clan/guild disputes due to in game politics... I'm done with that bullcrap.
I thank you for trying to help... but I think its better for me to just get away from nexon type games as it really just feels as if they just want whats in my wallet and not really care about fixing game issues like lag spikes. I cant even tell what the ping is between my computer and the server.
I like solo play and even though it might be harder to play solo then in a group... thats just the way I like playing sometimes.
