Wish MMOs would take some ideas from mabi
Seriously, I love the skill system for mabi, the whole using it and using it in certain situations in order to level it, is perfect. Plus leveling to 80 without any combat is awesome.

Well, yeah I thought that too.
but then problem is, games like mabi only can do something like this skill system.
Most MMO these days are combat action focused games.
Most of them has high paced of game speed in general.
But mabi on other hand its "Fantasy life"
Its not combat action focused, its life game.
You need to live your online life.

yeah I am getting out of topic lol
So what I mean is, this skill system will be so useless in games like vindictus, TERA, etc...
Because they are focused on combat, dungeons, and raids.
Not a social things.
Archeage on the other hand actually tried to be like mabi and be combat focused at once.
You can choose 3 skill trees and actually try all the 3 skill trees.
and alot of life skills and housings.. etc..
So if you were looking for game like mabi but better graphics and less ♥♥♥♥♥♥ server lags.
Go ahead and try archeage.

I've been dedicated to mabi for 6 years.
Thats more than I've played my entire steam library, doubled over, and I have near 100 games.

I have to say that even with this games prob's I have to say I agree with you. I wish games would let you learn skills by using other skill(braching) also I liked how you can earn xp for increasing your skills. I just wish that this game could be a bit more popular.

Majority of MMORPG's suffer tons of repetition, and at most, content to back it up. It's a competitive environment to stand out from majority of these MMO's. If everyone MMO copied Mabinogi, then it would be on the line of standard (though, personally, I wouldn't mind a Mabinogi Heroe's graphics x Mabinogi battle system; my money is yours devCat. I'd probably never leave the house ever again.)

Not advertising the game properly, perhaps. But it's not entirely the problem. Even the SAO content that lured all the SAO idiots in, didn't stick for long. Cause the gameplay didn't appeal to them. Kids now-a-days only want to play something easy.

I don't want things to be easy as long I'm not hurt for it. Ex Say you want to keep doing the story mission like in G1. Sadly the last mission makes you either bring 2friends or you get really powerful.
Or in G3 last mission that either bring 2 people or fail. I don't like that about the game Why did they not change it so that I can get up to the current Generation(stuck in the 3rd due to dragon one shoting me)?

Well mabi is alot easier now a days then it use to be. I remember before elfs and giants, I would need a friend to take on grey wolfs, and there was alot more social aspect to the game with many people in dungeons looking for parties.

I dislike the whole solo approach the game has now

Solo mode if done right is learning mode in games meaning before I go out into groups I need to learn to take care of myself. If the person doesn't learn to take care of themsevels then join groups they turn into a healing dump or worst dead weight. Also the most social I have seen this game is on saturday when the free xp thing starts. Sadly even then about 30% are afk from all my xp with thoses.

The MMO that had a skill system the most similar to Mabinogi's was Shin Megami Tensei Image's. Unfortunately to my knowledage it shut down around February 2014.

reason why?
Arolust Jan 17, 2015 @ 7:29pm
oh yea! Megaten! I remember playing that. That game was great, I loved that skill system as well, I also liked it limiting it so you couldnt get everything, made it more "work together" to win.
if only it didnt feel so linear in its map design.

@sirlarryton
Megaten got passed from one company to another, then finally died, it just wasnt very popular, but it definally was up there in uniqueness to mabinogi.

There is nothing any MMO needs to take from mabi. Nothing, unless you want every single MMO to be as easy and repetitive as this one. I've played this game since open beta and it was so much better back in the day. I didn't like the whole premium service for the G thing but in terms of the difficulty the game had a pretty decent difficulty associated with it.

Next, a lot of the useful skills are capped I.E. Mana Shield, First Aid, Rest, etc.

Third, the tabs are a jumbled mess with no real organizational structure.

Fourth, the game does a good job of making its own mechanics obsolete. With each skill that surfaces 3 more older skills become irrelevant and underpowered. Basically, there's no real thought process behind anything the devs do.

Fifth, every support skill in this game is underpowered or serve no real purpose as reforges completely cancel them out.

There is absolutely nothing, NOTHING mabi's example offers to any MMO up and coming. This game has erred so badly that legitimate play to gain some type of strength is almost nonexistant. GG Nexon, you broke yourself.

I love Mabinogi still as I have also played since Beta, and granted i do think that the game has in the most recent re-do of older G's gotten easier, this is also partially responsible to older players not holding back and letting the new player get dirty. so this way the new players can get together for it.

As for myself I have recently come back from Archage and am once again appreciating everything that Mabinogi has. The strategic and diverse way a player can choose to fight and the social aspect of it is still there. I have formed some lasting friendships in this game and am currently enjoying life as a doctor that guides new players that I come across .

As for the dev's contrary to rumors they actually do help. I had trouble awhile back with one of the book quests bugging on me and after sending a ticket they got back to me and had fixed it.
Speaking of which they in some for or another are constantly developing Mabinogi and improving the mechanics that are behind it, thus making it run smoother( fellow players from earlier on can remember having to load counter attack/WM right after hitting the enemy and hoping it would load in time.) and they still render improvements

Regarding skill caps, who cares? obviously some of you, but here's a thought. Everyone is capped so no advantage or disadvantage are given, besides you have plenty of other places to train and throw that ap around. Been doing that since G1 and still finding new places to put it.

Got a friend playing mabi atm and they are enjoying the challenge it offers them plus that mabinogi storyline which is great mind you, wont find me giving spoilers though,^-^.

I think we as players need to take charge of the situation and make the most of it so if you've been around a while, glad to have you, and keep at it.

Oh and as for the newcomers..... Welcome to mabi, enjoy your stay!

P.S. Ruari Rules!

Naive. Reforges put people ahead to cancel out the handicap of capped skills. Once it becomes uncapped those that used reforges would still technically be at an advantage. Throwing ap at any old skill only makes the character flimsy, barely able to survive with almost no specialty whatsoever. Those types of people tend to be relatively useless from what I've seen.

Perhaps, but once the cap is released then it is released for everyone, also getting a reforge shouldn't be much of a problem unless your reforging , then dropping the weapon only to switch to something else, there is meaning in earning something in mabi and not just having it handed out. so in the mean time while something is capped, go spend it elsewhere or stockpile that ap

If you honestly believe that then that's pretty sad man. People have their main weapons which are reforged with all of their desired buffs. It doesn't matter if they switch weapons because everything they reforged has a constant buff. The armor especially. I've seen armor with super buffs while they still have said skill at rF. They're doing something a skill normally at r5 would do. I've seen damage 57k and higher given from a reforge. Even if one were to gain all the stats in the game that it has to offer, the most you'd be able to hit is about 25-35k damage give or take. People hit this at level 2k if they've spent enough on reforges. So unless you're level 30.4k which is what it takes output constant dps like that then don't believe that mess. Puppets are the only thing worth the time and effort to obtain at r1. It's all about the puppets.
