I was in your position once too- A powerful gunner who pushed out 100k in 30 seconds, yet I could be one-shot by bears and golems. An extreme glass cannon.
Here's my advice: Get a royal knight armor chestpiece, and a decent melee weapon. Go two handed if you're a human, or dual wield. Then level Heavy armor, Close combat, Defense, Counter, smash, windmill, Bash if you can get your hands on it, and the mastery for your weapon. It should put you at 500 hp minimum, and boost your defence to well over one hundred. You should instantly become a HELL of a lot less fragile.
I used to think close combat was useless myself. Then I took a Statcheck to the characterwindow.
Tl;Dr, DON'T IGNORE YOUR SWORDPLAY, KIDZ
Only method I did to get passed that with a mage was using Meteor Strike which deals some physical damage instead of pure magic damage. Other methods would be use Demigod abilities, Hydra Transmutation or Life Drain if you have them. Having a mage character I can understand your frustration. If you do not have Demigod then I suggest you get it seeing as how G9-G12 was made significantly easier than what it used to be and will be super helpful in some fights like this where magic isn't a real viable option.
Melee is so overpowered now, especially with the damage increase to Final Hit. Also for G19 its also recommended to have several Nao Soul Stones or Balloons that can revive you to be on the safe side and help make sure all your work was not wasted.
And even at rF sand-blast is beyond useful for getting some distance between you and the enemy. Between that and Crisis escape there shouldn't be much that can threaten you 1 v 1 or 2 v 1 (the cooldown before an enemy can be blinded again is about 20 seconds or so).
