Mabinogi is a game where you're given the freedom to go at things how you want, which while nice does give a sense of "the hell is going on". The wiki, wiki.mabinogiworld.com , is probably the best guide out there, from the Generation quests and what monsters you'll be facing in each quest to how to aquire skills and monster loot drops.

Also, which server are you on? Can help with finding people to do things with, especially since all of Generation 2 you need to do by yourself. So the experience you can get with people before then should help make that easier.

Yes, Saga is basically the Generation 18 quest line, so certain things won't make sense if you haven't played the previous Generation quests (as it reintroduces some older characters).

Basically, Generation 1 begins at level 5 after you've done the beginner quests.
Generation 2 starts after completing Gen1 or you can start it once you hit level 100 (doesn't matter if you beat Gen1 or are in the middle of it).
Generation 3 can only be done after Generation 2, and is the last quest line in "Chapter 1".

"Chapter 2" begins with the Generation 7 quest line, and can be started after completing Gen3.
Gen8 can be done after you complete or skip Gen7.

"Chapter 3" begins with Gen9, which is started once you reach somewhere around level 260(?) or when you've completed Gen3.
Gen10 begins after Gen9 or reaching level 320, Gen11 begins after completing Gen10, and Gen12 begins after Gen11, which is the last questline for "Chapter 3".

Gen13 begins after Gen12 or when you're at level 510, Gen14 is after Gen13, then Gen15 and Gen16.

After that, two "sidequests" are available (althought I do believe you can do them whenever you want), Shamala and Nightmare, which are both a prelude to The Saga: Iria.

There's additional sidequests within some of the Generation quests, I know Gen9 should have one. But that's basically the flow of the story in the game.

Well, the Saga quests you can do at any time.

When you first start the game the quests you should have are the beginner quests and whatever quests relating to currently active events. The Beginner Quests are the ones where you talk with Duncan in Tir, learn how to gather, learning the rest skill, and that Alby dungeon run. These will be in the normal tab.

By that point, you should be level 5 or higher, and should get a cutscene, then the first quest in Generation 1 (which will be under the Goddess tab if you look at your quest window, as will G2 and G3). Just about all "sidequests" should be under the Normal tab in the quest window.

The Game Really Follows The Seven Invasions Of Ireland.. if you know About Norse/Celtic Mythology... Well Theres Actually Two Games That Nexon Has That Follows the Myth (for the most part), Vindictus, and Mabinogi.. ok so Vindictus is what Happens Before Mabinogi It Explains How The Goddess Came to Be, and What Happens to the Fomor. In Vindictus you Actually playing as a Tuath Da dannan Descendent.. (merc) though..Vindictus Is about the Tuatha Da Dannan Destroy A Vast Majority Of Fomor To Call Forth Erinn (Ireland) which they belive is Paradise... to there dismay finally learn that Erinn is Already Come Forth, and they are already on it..(i won't say all), and on Mabinogi.. You play as a milestein Who Conquered The Tuatha Da Dannan, but basically The Remaining Fomor Don't like it,, and Wage War Again Emain macha (seat of Power & actual place) mind you i'm only going to G3 for this.. the other Generation are just extra... pretty much you Stop the Fomor's planns.. and you Free Tieve (aka Goddess Morrighan)

Theres alot i left out... i kinda wanted to keep it short.. but failed..

One does not simply keep the story of the Seven Invasions of Ireland short.
It honestly is a lot that goes on.

Best thing you can do when you first start out is just do the quests in your log, which are all helpful to starting out. And be sure to pay attention to the dialogue, as it has a lot of useful info.
Also, if you picked a talent that isn't combat, you might wanna change that... It's very helpful in the beginning. I started out as a Tailor and still regret it...luckily, you can undo mistakes like that, since you can reset all your skills if your total level is under 300.

Look up some beginner's guides and look at the wiki when in doubt. And try and find a guild that'll help you and answer questions if you have any. It's honestly really great, especially when you need people to help and escort you through some dungeons.

Hope you enjoy the game. :]

Its ok Kite it sounds really intresting and i started off as a gunslinger its pretty cool so far the moves and how created my character and i know i like it :)

Gun Slinger is actually a bad talent to start with.

Leveling Skills is the main focus here since in the long run, they'll end up providing stat boosts that are permenent apposed to leveling up the normal way.

Most skill sets will usually supply you with the stats that uses it. Close combat providing Strength on leveling skills, Magic Providing intelligence when leveling the skills, all which in turn increase your overall attack damage for that said skill set.

Guns rely on intelligence and strength to deal damage, but unfortunately, Gun skills only provide a pathetic amount of Strength and Intelligence, not enough to suit your needs when your talent level rises and you're expected to start doing higher level content.

Just remember though, the only good thing choosing a main talent does is provide double training for said skills.

Life skills are mostly useless for the function you'd think they would serve. The some of the best weapons, armor and clothing are gained through gachapons so don't expect to make money from these skills since everyone is too busy buying things from the latest gach. The only thing that's preventing them from being absolutely useless is that they provide stats when leveling them up. Potion making and Enchanting are probably the most useful life skills since making more potent potions is always a plus (even though Nexon sometimes does events that hands out very powerful potions in bulk) and theres usually someone who needs enchanting services. Magic Craft, and Hilwin Engineering are useful for now since they're fairly new and the items you can craft from those fields are nice, but I wouldn't be surprised if Nexon starts to add those items in Gachapons down the line.

That being said though, leveling up life skills is recommended eventually since the stat increases they give are quite big.

Start doing shadow missions if you want to level up and get money at a decent rate.

Use this site for any information.

Also, think about decreasing your MTU if your responsiveness isn't up to your liking.
(google it)

Just becareful if you do that since making it too low will screw around with your internet connection.

I know i really appreciate it

Reading through all this, there's really not much to add. Neo gave you all the info you really need right from the get-go, along with some usefull advice.

The only thing I can say is that I spent 4 years ignoreing the main quests and just faffing around and exploreing.

This game has an insane amount of content if you look. If you start feeling burned out from the main quests, feel free to break from them to explore, experament, and have fun. This is a true "Do whatever you want" game. moreso then most others I've seen
