Auto weapon slot conversion (in GAME > Control)
This will make you automatically switch weapons when you load a skill. (loading a bow skill will switch to your bow in your other weapon slot automatically if you're not holding it for example)
Change Critical Effect to Not Used (in SYSTEM > Effect)
The critical effect makes the screen flash white. It's a bit too much at times.
Disable Screen Shake (in SYSTEM > Performance)
Same as above, too much screen shake effect.
For Hotkeys I highly recommend setting a keybind for these;
Object Targeting (Its like CTRL targeting but for objects like trees/chests/orb switches)
Pet Inventory
Cancel Pet Summon
Item Collection (Lets you pick up items at your feet with hotkey instead of clicking on them)
I put Object Targeting to whatever's close to my CTRL key.
Item Collection is set to Alt + C by default which is... a little odd to me.
A lot of mabi players store items on pets so a hotkey for pet inventory is recommended.
Not really sure about modern setting for gameplay, I feel like thats a preference thing, but if you want skills to be used immediately when you press the skill, you can turn on Use Skill after Targeting (under Game Control)
Makes it so for example instead of pressing Smash > click on enemy, the game will try to use Smash immediately, or attempt to use the skill if you're just spamming the skill button.
There's probably more options but can't remember them all, I usually play with most setting default unless it really bothers me.
I think Steam controllers comes with functions to make special macros and radials and stuff, but you cannot activate this in a typical PC setting.
For instance the activation of skills in this game requires pressing the button to 'load' the skill, and then you decide when to 'activate' by designating a target you click on, or a area to click in.
So the simplest way is expanding the amount of skills you can use without complicated finger/hand stretching across the keyboard:
- I use rebound hotkeys like basic combat skills Smash, Counter, Windmill on A, Z, X. Skills that is typically used across different loadout and aren't weapon oriented.
- I then use 'reactionary' based extra skills with modifiers like Ctrl + A,Z,X, like Assault Slash, or activating mana shield, or such.
With the left hand closer to the WASD keys, the number 1-2-3-4 keys can be used to access the hotbar skills (my previous rebound keys are skill slots in the skills windows, which you can activate separately), then 5-6-7-8-9-0 can be bound as macro buttons on my gaming mouse.
I remember playing FF14 and I literally rebounded a lot of my keyboard mapping keys with skills, like:
1 2 3 4
Q - E R
- - - F
Z X C V
I got 12 skills I can use in that rebind ingame... and I can also use WASD to move.
But mabinogi does not support these sort of things, and it only goes up to like 1-9 or such limits.
Mabinogi never lets you rebind the F1 to F12 keys unfortunately, and it doesn't have the same level of polish and customization FF14 has for button inputs.

I remember testing my recording function on my PC so I saved a video of testing out the hotbars on FF14, this is what I'm talking about.
