-Upgrades, limited in number (varies between none and 5, depending on item and item type), expensive early on, and with limited effect, but it doesn't hurt to get them done, if you plan on keeping that particular item
-Enchant, limited to 2 (prefix and suffix) has the chance of degrading the item's durability, and one of the hardest to pull off succesfully due to the requirement of following the Enchant Chain above rank A (Meaning, a rank 8 prefix requires a rank 9 prefix to be already added, and rank 9 prefix also require rank A to be put in before that) resulting in a high tendency of literally wrecking your gear, as the Enchanting chance is capped to never reach 100%, and severly decreases after you reach past rank 8 enchants, regardless of the Enchanter's rank. It is essentially an option for people with a lot of gold, or NX to protect their gear, preferably both.
-Reforge, Essentially a totally random bonus applied to the item, independant of upgrades and enchants. The effects are varied, and if you're lucky you can end up with a really sweet effect, or a completely useless one if you are not. Reforge normally can be applied once and is very weak if you use the normal NPC bought Reforge tool. More interesting reforges require the use of Fine Reforge Tools and Credne Reforge tools and the like to increase both the potency of the effect, and the number of possible effects applied, yet it Still is completely random.
In Ninja's cases, Shurikens do have a notable effect on your trade's practice, for example Hagi's Shuriken is a much faster weapon than all other shurikens, and make it easier to spam normal attacks and keep enemies at bay. But when it comes to raw damage output and stat bonuses, the true solution comes in stat building. Namely, acquire skills from other trades, like Warrior, Lancer, Archer, Gunner, etc, and rank their skills to benefit from the stat increase those gives, which benefit your Ninja skills as well. Ninjas benefit directly from Strenght, Will HP and Stam (everyone benefits from HP and Stam), they also indirectly benefit from Dexterity and Luck to a lesser degree.
Hope that'll help you
Most weapons and clothes and armors can be found floating around in shops or player hands (trades). Ninja is a "new" class (in comparison) so theres not alot of options in weapons, you can use any armor you can wear, no real wrong way to go there due to the low stats armor/cloths give (not taking into account special stats/options). Might be good to not focus solely on ninja but keep some other weapons in your other weapon slots
