Difficulty with defense tutorial

Hi! I'm a total newbie to Mabinogi and am still not entirely sure of what I'm doing. I'm currently stuck in the tutorial in the beginning of the game where you talk with Tin and he's showing you how to fight with the raccoons. I know how to attack, however I can't remember/figure out how to use defense after using attack (or at all really)... please help!

No worries. It took me awhile to learn it too.

Look in your action bar(s) - up in the top left. They are hotkeyed. To customize, press 'Z' to open up your skill window and drag and drop the skill icon into the empty slots. (This can also be done with pets and health/mana/stamina potions.)

Here is a tip about the ability. If you want to be a tank for your friends rank up the ability to at least rank 5. This is because at rank 5 and higher you give a passive AOE defence buff to all teammates near you for as long as you are using the ability.

Keep this in mind when you notice your stats change while you are in a team with some people. As some abilities do have hidden stats and auras that can effect other players around you even if the ability itself doesn't list it as such.

Another examaple would crafting abilities, as you get a passive crafting buff just by being in a team with other people. So if you want the best odds of crafting stuff make sure you are in a team and craft while it is raining or have someone make it rain with the alchemy ability.
