Mabinogi crashes after startup
Okay, so, before you all say anything I have already scoured the internet for a solution and I came across only one post that had my problem. However there were LITERALLY no responses to it, so I'm resulting to making one myself.

Basically what happens is that I start up the game. The launcher shows up and it does it's little thing and launches the game after a few seconds. Immediately right after the window for the game pops up it stops responding. Like, when it immediately show up in task manager it's all at 0%, NOTHING is working for the game.

I had:
• Turned off my anti-virus while I downloaded
• My anti-virus off while I validated the files

Usually, though, Norton likes this game. i never had a problem with this game before until now. Is Norton acting up or something? Suddenly all of my games aren't working anymore ever since I reset my computer because OneDrive was being an ass.

I am thankful for any responses you might give to my predicament.

Not sure if you tried running it through Lutris or not yet but since I use Linux I ran it perfectly fine through there. I will give you some steps on how to do it.

  1. Get Lutris downloaded

  2. Launch Lutris and make sure it is updated fully

  3. Get the latest Nexon launcher .exe from their website

  4. At the Lutris main menu press the + icon then select install a windows game from an executable

  5. Enter the game name Mabinogi and leave the OS option to Windows 10

  6. Afterwards select the Setup File for the Nexon launcher .exe and let it run. If you see the Nexon Launcher run and update then you should be good

  7. Make sure to login to the Nexon launcher to see if it works

  8. Close the launcher and make sure Lutris is showing Play when you select the game. Now make sure to locate the files where Lutris created the Mabinogi folder

  9. Now you need to config the Lutris settings for Mabinogi (and by extension the Nexon launcher). So right click and hit configure

  10. On the Game Info tab select your runner to be Wine

  11. On the Game options tab click the folder icon on the right hand side of Executable. From there you need to head to a certain directory from your Lutris Mabinogi folder. An example would be /Games/mabinogi/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Nexon/Nexon Launcher/nexon_launcher.exe. Make sure to have that nexon_launcher.exe selected which should bring you back to the config tab. Now do the same thing for Wine Prefix but just the directory where the nexon_launcher.exe itself is located at

  12. The Runner options tab will require you to have wine-ge selected. Make sure Esynch and Fsynch are selected when you scroll down. You may or may not have to turn off FSR

  13. Finally on the System options tab click Advanced (near Save). Choose prefer system libraries, disable screensaver and enable feral gamemode. Alternatively you can disable prefer system libraries and use the provided ones by Lutris

  14. Now that is done you will press Save to save your hard work

  15. (Optional) You may have to install Wine which you can google about

  16. You are now finished and can play Mabinogi from Lutris

Hope this can help you out.

that doesn't solve the crashing with the steam version though.

I know it doesn't solve it with the Steam version. I am just trying to see if you can run it at all.

Hi Astraea, is this only happening with the Steam Launcher? Does the same happen if you launch Mabinogi through the Nexon Launcher?

Fair. Just a question tho: What's Lutris? I never heard of it before so suddenly suggesting it without saying what it is is kinda sketchy.

Lutris is an open source game manager ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lutris ). It can use a variety of compatibility layers which helps run Windows games under different operating systems which is useful. You may also be familiar with Steam's Proton which is also a compatibility layer.

The reason I recommended it is because while you may not be able to run it on Steam you may have a chance to run it on Lutris. Though you should see what the developer above has to say in terms of fixing Mabinogi on Steam for you first.
