More games like this ?
Not talking about the core gameplay / sokoban style, more about the secret hunting, hidden endings, replayability to see everything...

I dug deep into Void Stranger at released and the only thing I spoiled for myself is the Ex brand recently when I came here to see if there was anything new that was found out.

I think Tunic gets quite cryptic, but I have yet to play it.

Any recommandations ?

Yes, tunic has secrets that are kind of in the same idea. I don't know if you played Outer Wilds, but it's exactly the same too, and one of the bests games of this century for a lot of players. The Witness, in a way, is like this too.

Eidoryan gave most of the really good suggestions already! If you're looking for games that appeal to a similar aesthetic and theme as Void Stranger, OneShot does a really good job with meta mechanics and tough decisions with a few puzzles scattered throughout. I felt for its characters in a similar way to how I ended up feeling for VS' characters. Yume Nikki and its fangames have little-to-no story or traditional "gameplay" like Void Stranger does but they definitely give a similar feeling of unfathomable depth and endless exploration.

OneShot will definitely go on sale for cheap during the upcoming sale, and Yume Nikki is free. Also play ZeroRanger, obviously.

Based on your criteria I will recommend Yuppie Psycho, it has multiple paths, hidden secrets and lore.

Signalis is even more like Silent Hill but is largely linear, only the endings are unique.

Well, it's not a puzzle-y kind of game, but Iji is worth checking out imo. While it seems like a linear action platformer, you have more agency than you might think and your actions and choices do have consequences on the story. It's like Undertale before Undertale existed, except it doesn't beat you over the head relentlessly with its themes.
There's a fair bit of secrets to be found as well, not just in the form of secret areas or items but the game will acknowledge if you do things like sequence break or use certain secret weapons on certain bosses, there's an easter egg for pretty much everything you can think of.
The way Iji plays is quite odd and unlike pretty much every other action platformer out there. You may find it to be offputting at first, but the gameplay surrounding the movement and combat is *very* meticulously designed to work well. I think it could technically even be thought of as an immersive sim of sorts, what with the RPG elements and how they can change how you progress through levels. It's been about a decade since I played last so my memory is fuzzy, sorry if what I'm saying sounds a bit vague.
Oh yeah, the soundtrack is really good too.

Environmental Station Alpha is a Metroidvania with a lot more hidden stuff going on past the credits.
Animal Well is a Metroidvania with huge emphasis on out of the box puzzle solving.
You already mentioned Tunic which would definitely hit what youre looking for.
Noita is more of a straight forward roguelike with a lot of not very straight forward puzzles and hidden mechanics.
Outer Wilds is probably the purest knowledge rabbit hole game in that theres pretty much no traditional gameplay progression and its entirely knowledge based.
I havent played them myself but Return of the Obra Dinn, FEZ and The Witness get mentioned a lot.

Obra Dinn is excellent, it just doesn't fit any of the criteria set out by the OP.

Thanks everyone !
It's hard to look for games like this wuthout spoiling yourself.
I know now that those games are often named "knowledge based-games". Most seem close to Void Stranger for the "going down the rabbit hole" feeling.

I started Tunic and as soon as the first gibberish text appeared I was 100% in !

Outter Wilds seems to be consensualy tagged as the best of this genre. Thanks for the recommandation I would never have looked at it otherwise.

You can try the La-Mulana games. Those are metroidvania games with a strong focus on obscure puzzle and riddle solving.
Be cautious though, these games can be really damn criptic at times. (specially the first one)

A lot of great recommendations here!

I'm going to mention The Talos Principle, because it gave me a lot of similar feelings of "there's more to this world than meets the eye and I want to dig deep and find everything" and requires a lot of out-of-the-box thinking and "breaking" the game to be able to see all it has to offer. There's a sequel that came out recently but I haven't played it yet.

I also recommend Phoenotopia: Awakening and Paquerette Down the Bunburrows

Seconding La-Mulana games if you like the whole "screen you've passed a dozen times before, suddenly reveals something new when you learn how something works" and mysterious world building and cryptic puzzles. They are tough but extremely rewarding metroidvanias with some great music and secrets.
Pontus Jul 11, 2024 @ 6:20pm
Not about secrets at all, but if you want the most cryptic, the wisest story ever told in a video game, go check out Kentucky Route Zero.
Thirding La-Mulana. Even though it is a completely different genre, it has a lot of common in terms of having to think outside the box.
