"Soft" reset teleports you back to B001 floor, but you retain majority of your progress (only puzzles and locust/scarab chests reset. but, at that point, you can utilize game's shticks and tricks to "cheat" your way through by "skipping" many floors, both forth and back, or go through puzzle floors much faster, if you have some of the crucial equipment items already on you, which, by that point, you'd usually would), which can actually be detrimental/bad in case if you failed to deal with any NPCs correctly (help/rescue/fully interact with them properly), as NPCs will NOT be "fixed" and WON'T "come back" if you killed them or failed to save them from monsters, or mistreated them (bumped into/tackled them), since their progress is stored in a single-continuous-run save (meaning you have to do ALL of them "right" from the first "try" when you meet up with/interact with them in the game, with just one exception where you have to interact with one of the NPCs, the "punky girl", a.k.a. "kid", in more than one "chapter"/while playing as another character). And it also "heals" you off of the Voided status, if you have one on you. This is actually the "intended-by-the-developers" way to get to the proper "true ending of the chapter" for some of the characters, as you don't actually "start over" when "soft resetting", but continue on progressing in the story/plot/game, to a certain point. To "soft" reset, enter a room/floor which has Cif's idol/totem (all-black statue with four "bright eyes"), put exit/stairs tile in front of it, then go.
"Hard" reset, however, wipes/resets ALL of your story/plot/NPC/game progress and you have to restart completely from scratch (still not losing absolutely everything, though, as "brands" you've found/collected and "memory crystals" you've obtained are both stored in a separate individual file, so you get them no matter what and you can use/apply/equip/activate them later). This can be done two ways: either obtain a type/kind of "ending" which ends up in a complete reset/wipe (there are several of such "endings" in this game), or die completely (fully spending all locusts/scarabs) and then REFUSE to accept the fruit (so choose to "give up" when asked/prompted on the "continue?" screen). And if you're "Voided" and "can't die" due to the "eaten fruit", do the aforementioned "soft reset" first, to remove the status.
Reset options for Cif that you should know by now:
1. use stairs set below black/4 eyed statues: takes you to B001, locusts/chests normally reset, npc interactions do not reset. This is more of a soft reset, harder reset in #2.
2. Finish an ending for that route. (the second "hard" reset method the other post described) For Cif everything not a collectible or unique interaction(generally inconsequential) resets. You may not have discovered where to do this yet, progressive hints/spoilers on where in number #3 and beyond.
Things you may not know yet judging from your question.
3. I am assuming you do not know where to progress during Cif route, if you know which places to go, those are your reset options other than the save deletion method.
I cannot give perfect hints without knowing what you have discovered, but I will try, Read
#3.1 for optional fast way, #4 for main story way
3.1. Do you remember stumbling into an area with entirely black screens somehow? If not, the access method could be moderate spoilers. If you do know the area, proceed to #3.2, otherwise go to #4
3.2 maybe moderate spoilers The fastest reset option that takes you to back to the brand screen, but will skip the main content of cif route. See #4 to pursue that. Go back to the area with many black screens.
How to: Pickup B0 tile Follow noises/ghosts several screens over to large sphere, knock 6 times wait 6 seconds.
4. Remember why you are here from the cutscenes, Cif is trying to find Bee, question what has changed from other routes. next hint 4.1
4.1 Have you asked NPCs? such as the snake on B030, or head on 143? (skippable if you wish) next hint #4.2
4.2 Something new happens when you get deep enough. Specific details in #4.3 if you can't find it by B196 or want to save time.
4.3 at 170(and a bit beyond) footsteps appear exiting each area, where do they go? next hint 4.4
4.4 Follow them exactly on 193, continue avoiding stairs from here on for main cif ending
I first visited B256 but didn't remember where I last heard that sound that you hear when knocking on the image of the person there, so in the end I used Cif's statue to reset to B001 and fought Mon again.
UI manipulate your way past B256, and complete the puzzles until you reach a giant statue. Knock on the statue 6 times and wait. Keep saying Yes to it's questions. Congratulations you have erased everything.
