HELP! What do the X tiles do?

I've played through the game in VOID mode, I ate the orange the monster gave me after I big died. Then I got this very sad endless void song, and then I was put back at the beginning of the game. This is my first time seeing one of these glowing X tiles on B010. What do I do with it? I'm already aware of how to get to it, just need help!

are you referring to the tiles that need to be removed to get crystals? those cannot be gotten while voided and are needed to unlock pictures in the memories tab when paused

you pick the tile they're on up with the rod. once picked up you can replace the tile or do whatever you want with it, but you won't collect the item until you exit the stage properly. (meaning if you die you have to pick it up again)
