If you still want to know: When you see one of those black statues with 4 eyes, place a staircase on the tile below theirs and go down the staircase. A short cutscene will trigger and you'll be back in the very beginning.
EDIT: i don't know how far you are into the game, but what you call an "easy" mode feels like the intended way to do a first playthrough. I don't encourage you to start the game from scratch just because you feel like you activated baby mode or something, you very much didn't (in my opinion).
