Report a translation problem
The explanation of the intended solution and what most likely happened to you contain spoilers for mechanics of the game.
For the intended solution, you were supposed to kill the hand and then move the statue out of the way to allow the snake to cross over to the left. Eventually, the snake and maggot will attempt to move into the same tile at the same time, killing each other. From there the rest is simple.
As for what likely happened to you, it has to do with the hidden function of the statue, which gets revealed later in the game. If you fall into the hole in front of the statue, the statue will consume all of your locus idols while teleporting you that many floors ahead. You probably had 23 locusts before, but now you have zero.
As for the other thing...welp. Guess that's where I am now!
Yeah, the timing can definitely get a bit annoying with those things.
Sometimes the two will be on cycles where they never collide, so you have to move tiles around to either lengthen or shorten how far they have to move. Can get especially annoying in levels where you have less maneuverability than 129
