The cons is that he is slow but not to slow. He can do many things but you need atleast 140+ Stamina when you're level 35+ if you want to keep weaving attacks
his playstyle is aggressive. you'll need to learn enemy/boss attacks as well as your own absorb shock frames. you'll pretty much be attacking when they attack to stay alive.
in raids, your roll will mostly revolve around dealing damage and landing those boss clashes to let your party get in as much damage as possible.
he's an extremely fun character and i would definitely recommend him to anyone who likes to be in a boss' face the whole time :P
since all i really know is pillar for karok here are some of the pros/cons i feel are important
(pillar) pros:
-since the pillar swings slower, you'll have longer absorb shock frames and you'll be able to soak up more damage more efficiently. (both a pro and a con)
-you don't use that as much stamina as you would think, which helps you stay in the fight longer.
-able to clear rooms in dungeons very fast
-high spike damage
(pillar) cons:
-not as evasive as you would be with a cestus
-overall dps isn't as good as cestus
-slower swings (both a pro and a con)
i haven't played in a while, but this is what i can remember off of the top of my head. hope this helps
Pillar pros:
- Higher survivabilty as every attack can absorb damage
- Gains SP faster than cestus (depends on attack used though)
Pillar cons:
- Lower DPS rate compared to cestus
- SP moves are less effective
Cestus pros:
- Can be used to buff your attack speed, damage, and critical hits
- Fast attacks combined with buffs mean high DPS rate
- SP moves are more effective compared to pillar
Cestus cons:
- Only the first normal attack, smashes, and blasts are weaveable, apart from the dodge, so less survivable
- SP is harder to build up
There's also slight differences between absorb shock and weave. During absorb shock you lose health at first, which then regenerates back to the level prior to absorb shock. Weave has no regeneration time and a successful weave increases your blast charge level.
The blast charge level is what determines the buff you receive when you fire the blast. You'll only get a buff if you hit an enemy with the blast and the buff durations are set back to one minute upon a successful blast.
Karok also has a unique skill called "Clash." In a nutshell, you can interrupt certain attacks from certain bosses and hold them in place for a short amount of time.
This is great when done in a team as it allows your teammates to attack as you hold the boss down. With only a few exceptions, clash is one of the best team moves available in the game.
There is a lot more to be said about Karok's clashes, and this guide here is great if you want to know all the possible clashes and clash techniques.

Cestus gives you faster combat attacks, while a Pillar uses sluggish, hard hitting ones.
