Game won't launch with Steam's files
Greetings all,

I can't get the game to run. It closes as soon as it's launched.

To run the game, I open Steam and click on "Vindictus" in my library. I then click on "play" within Steam and Nexon's window opens (Steam Connector) and prompt me to chose a server. I pick the "NA server" and click on "play" within the Nexon's window, then I get a prompt from Windows whether I want to "allow this app to make change to my device". I type in my admin password and hit "enter" button and Nexon window shuts down and Steam offers me to launch the game again.

Game was previously installed and removed from Steam. I just reinstalled it a few days ago.

Any idea how I can have the game running?

Thanks in advance,

Burialfaith

Turn off Windows UAC, that's the only thing I can see interfering with the launch process.

Btw thank you for the detailed post, instead of the usual "dis sh!t wont run" posts I see lol

I'm not feeling too sure about turning off UAC. I did try to "Run as admin" the Steam shortcut of Vindictus located on the desktop, but it seems like all of Steam games shortcuts have limited right-click options and that method to "Run as admin" is not listed.

I've tried to "Run as admin" C:\Program files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Vindictus\en-US\Vindictus.exe and it opens a web browser to the address https://vindictus.nexon.net/ . Running srcds.exe and _usa_AdBallonExt.exe located in the same directory won't open any window when prompted to "Run as admin".

When reaching the website https://vindictus.nexon.net/ and clicking on the "play now" button it offers 2 options: "sign up and start playing" or "download the launcher". I downloaded and installed Nexon Launcher. Running its desktop shortcut as non-admin opens the Nexon Global Launcher software. Inside the Global Launcher, I click on my Nexon tag and then click on "Launcher settings", then on "Game Install / Update" and I've changed the Game installation location to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Vindictus. From there, clicking on "Open Game Location" and selecting Vindictus.exe from the C:\Program files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Vindictus\en-US\ directory OR clicking the "ok" button will respectively open https://vindictus.nexon.net/ in a web browser and save the changes made. Closing and re-opening Nexon Global Launcher (as non-admin) shows the changes made to the "Game installation location", but clicking on the Vindictus icon only offers to download the game anew; its not recognizing the Steam installation folder.

From here, I'm gonna try to delete the Steam files of Vindictus and try to download it from the Nexon Global Launcher.

It looks like there's an issue with the files/installation provided by Steam as of february 22th 2021.

You'd only have to disable UAC temporarily until you see if it's able to run, you can re-enable it afterwards.

UAC is really only there to prevent programs from running without your consent, if you know what you're running is safe, you really don't need it, let an antivirus take care of the rest.

But, to each his own, let me know if the Nexon launcher worked for you :47_thumb_up:

After downloading Vindictus files from Nexon Global Launcher, a few crashes occurred while trying to launch the game which resolved by closing and re-opening Nexon Global Launcher.

Vindictus did launched properly when downloaded and launched through Nexon Global Launcher.

See you in game.

I found the only way around this was to Run Steam - as administrator, then run Vinictus. I would like to know a better way if anyone else knows. Should be able to as a "user" run steam and then the game. Others are like this as well, like Black Desert online...
