What games are like this?
I was going to write a review and mention this there, but can't seem to do that unless I bought it on Steam?

Anyway, on iOS this is one of my favorite games of all time. Not perfect, but pretty darn great! It had the campy, fun, humorous feel of 80's "Leisure Suit Larry in Space" games with decent graphics and fun arcade spaceship shooter controls and a fun semi-open world with a great story to follow as well. In short, an AMAZING game in my estimation.

I came here hoping to find an expanded version for PC and lo and behold, just the opposite for some reason. It isn't even the complete mobile game!

That lead me to wonder this: WHAT OTHER GAMES ARE LIKE GOF2?

I saw another post that asked why there weren't more games like this and a couple of games are mentioned there - but I wanted to ask straight up in the title so as to attract anyone who might not have looked in to that discussion - what are some games LIKE this one? I know there won't be any perfect GOF2HD games out there, but surely there are some games that are similar and fun?

Everspace was mentioned and Rebel Galaxy - Please comment below with similar OR even other games that you liked if you also liked GOF2HD.

I wish Steam did a better job of trying to link us to games we would like, sort of how some of the book club and movie sites try to help you find movies you would like based on what you already like and what other people who like the same things as you report liking.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

No Man's Sky, Star Citizen, Rebel Galaxy OUTLAW, EVE Online..off the top of my head. Though I'd say Elite Dangerous is close but slow.

This game is a wannabe clone of Freelancer, a game from 2003. They even reference it in the space lounge where they would say, "We don't own this base, but we have an understanding with the people who do." Freelancer was better, but it's pretty hard to find now.

I miss Freelancer...it would be great to see it on Steam. :critical:

is like a mini-clone of freelancer but without as much content. Had to blink twice but then with freelancer im using crossfire 2.0 mod and makes freelancer a graphics dream.:steamhappy:

I have spent a LOT of time looking for more games like this, but there aren't many. I still have this game on android, and its fun to play from time to time.

Here's a few, not all of them are like this game, but are ones that I like.

Galaxy Reavers (its free on Android, about $7 Steam, and free on IOS the last time I checked)

Galaxy Reavers 2 (its free on android)

No Mans Sky (its about $50-$60 on steam, Xbox, Playstation, and on the Microsoft store)

EVE Online (It's on free Steam, not sure if its even on other platforms)

Interstellar Pilot (its free on Android and IOS, but I don't think it's on other platforms)

AstroNest The Beginning (It's free on Android and its probably still on IOS and free, also The Beginning might not be in the title on either platform)

Stellar Wanderer (its free on android and might not be on IOS but its wortha try, also the fastest way I have found to get money is to de-equip everything from your starship as soon as you can, sell the equipment, then spend a few hours on the slot machine thing, sell the equipment from the slot machine, especially the mining lasers those are worth the most, then continue using the slot machine, and repeat.)

War Robots (its free on Android, and probably on IOS and free in IOS, also its best to save your gold until you can unlock the next garage space for another robot, and you dont have to like their facebook account or even have a facebook account to get the gold from the mission that says to like their facebok account, it just redirects you to their facebook profile, then you can just close the new tab it opened, go back into the game, and you get the 50 or so gold from the mission. additionally, its not necessary to get the skins, and if you want them, there are ones for the bigger robots that dont cost gold, and anyway if you hold onto the starter robot for too long which i have done in the past the other teams you face will be able to 5 shot you once you get to level 10 if you hold onto the Destrier for to long its better to have spent your gold on what is essentialy another life than to have spent it on a skin, no matter how cool the skin is. to put it in other words, its better to have another robot to avenge your last death than it is to not have another robot and look cool while your having your but handed to you on a silver platter while your quiting the game because your out of robots, theres 5 minutes left in the match, and you would rather play another match than watch your team struggle because there down a robot in the second half of a match which you cant play in because your the player thats out of robots)

The Pirate the carribean hunt (free on steam, Android, and prpbably IOS)

The Pirate Plague of the Dead (free on Steam, Android, and probably IOS)

Finally Last, but Certainly not least (the best out of all of them in my opinion, and the best Star Wars game in all of existence also in my opinion)

Star Wars Empire at War ($20 on steam but all the money is worth the price, and I got it for about $7-$10 on steam around Christmas a year or two ago, so if you don't have or want to spend $20 on it, this, like most games on steam, will be on a massive sale around Christmas time AKA around the holiday season)

Not quite the same but if you enjoy games set in space, check out the Homeworld series. It's more strategy game than third-person shooter but enjoyable nonetheless, and there's lots of content out there to sink your teeth into.
