Yes.
I was busy using an engineering bay's cards to make repairs on my ship mid-combat, boosting shields and making repairs while a gunship was trying to kill me.

I was at about 15 shields and 26 hull, and suddenly the enemy ship fired at least 8 consecutive blasts of what appeared to be flak shots at me until my ship was destroyed.

Was this a bug? or is there actually some stupid build-up card I didn't know about that the enemy will eventually pull that basically destroys you???

If so, it's extremely obnoxious for devs to include that attack just to stop players from repairing their hull higher than it was pre-combat.

P.S. I don't really care if it's relevant, but FTL allowed this to be done during combat with repair drones and it didn't break anything.

There are flak cards that proc other flak cards. And if they get that flak debuff on you, it can and will do a lot of dmg.

However, they won't be able to damage you if you take out their weapon hard point. Using cards with Precision attack or hacking would enable you to do so. And you will need to follow this strat for higher difficulty.

Yeah I don't think that's it. It's gotta be a bug.
What enemy card can proc 40 dmg worth of additional attacks?

I couldn't even get that high when I chained Conduction Amplifier + Gridfire + Overload Cannons crew ability for 30 dmg.

I can damage enemyships to -50 Hull, there are some nasty possibilities . Thy Pyroship with 10 heat, Hellfire,Decompression and Firestorm active will blast through everything

Just commenting on enemy creating high damage output once in awhile... Making about my 25th or so run, ran into an "advanced ship" (I believe the commentary actually said something like that). After about 6-8 rounds of combat, it played one of those laser (blaster?) cards that scale up in damage in proportion to the enemy's previously played qty of blasters. The attack laser showed 24 damage coming, and it was paired in timing with an 18 point damage secondary laser card - for a total of 42 hit points! By luck, I happened to have the support card that draws additional cards (at the cost of 1 heat for each card). By emptying my hand of most cards and redrawing about 5, I managed to get all three of my shield cards available, to block about 30 points. But it still hurt. On an average combat round, that firepower would wipeout or badly cripple any of our ship types. Yikes!!

Maybe it was this:

You hit the enemy and then he has Improvised Flak activated which automatically shoots you every time the enemy receives hull damage. So that's one attack.

Then he hits you with 2 separate flak rounds on his turn. That's 3 attacks.

Then he has heated shell which activates at the end of his round. That's 4 attacks. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I've never had 8 flak attacks at me before.

The one I hate is where there is 3 to 5 missiles without warning, seemingly coming from nowhere.
