You get to play as Patchouli Knowledge 10/10

This is another of those cases- I really like this game, but I'm not sure I can straight up recommend it, unfortunately- not when games like Vampire Survivors exist, especially since they're at the same price. I hate giving a game like this a non-recommendation, but I guess I'm just trying to be honest.

The game itself showed a lot of promise, but ultimately, is let down because of its shallow upgrade system, its singular stage, and lack of permanent upgrades. Vampire survivors does not thrive because of its gameplay alone. This is the problem with Library Survivors- it mimics a single level of Vampire Survivors, with its own little twist- but this isn't enough. You play it once, and you're absolutely done. People play VS because of all the crazy stuff you can do in the end, the constant progression, and the unlocking of stages and mechanics- none of which is here, in Library Survivors.

When I first got the game, I was excited to try out so many builds... before realizing that you aren't really allowed to do that at all. On hit? No stamina? On crit? Single ultra-powerful spell? None works.

I would happily be paying 5-10$ more if the game had the below content- and I would be able to recommend it to my friends, who I also know would play this game. Unfortunately, I can't, because there's no reason to not play VS, at the current. I kinda doubt it, but I hope there's gonna be an update, or even a DLC.

Here's my suggestion on how this would have worked better:

1. Nodes with no limitations
- Remove all "unique" factors. Re-balance things out for this purpose (set the Power and Vitality to a fairer value)
- Remove the limits in weapons. The 6 weapon limits just suck.
- Allow all weapons to have all modifiers. This means that any weapon can be activated, be on-hit, or be on-crit, or whatever other crazy shenanigans could ensure, like when stamina depletes.
- Nodes can be expanded around. This does not improve them, but allows them to affect more nodes. This system could be used in place of adding another upgrade nodes on leveling up.
- Remove "Catalyst" leveling, or make it endless. This currently feels like a bad puzzle game where I have to find the right answer on where to place the leveling nodes, instead of giving it as much value as the build is worth.
- Avoid nodes like the weight one. Certain spells, like ion storm, just benefit of it way too much, while taking no drawback. It's more interesting to have "small" upgrades with no drawback.
- Nodes like simplify are fine- they aren't upgrades to the spell, and instead act as a full changer. Another example could be a last word modifier, which heavily slows fire rate, but greatly increases damage. Nodes with drawback should be game changers. Do not make them "unique"! Simply make them only affect spells once.

2. Progression & Stages
- The permanent upgrade system could be based on the same upgrade system in stages. They would be a little less effective. They can mix both global upgrades and direct upgrades- putting a "Wipe Moisture" and a "Dexterity" nodes next to each other could allow any "Wipe Moisture" taken in any stages to gain additional fire rate, permanently!
- Perhaps, gathering resources to unlock more spaces in the permanent upgrade hexes, and maybe have multiple pages, to try out different builds.
- Endless mode could be really interesting to try out.
- Some additional stages based on the other games, like PCB, IN, MoF, etc.

3. Fun & Others
- Where're the fusions! Games like VS and Holocure are infamous for them. And Patchouli is KNOWN for fusing elements together for spells: Fire & Earth Sign "Lava Cromlech", Water & Wood Sign "Water Elf", Moon & Metal Sign "Sunshine Reflector". Many of those can be invented, too- that's definitively in the spirit of Touhou.
- Some forms of graphics for certain abilities? Maybe sounds? Force Lashers just being... regular bullets, well, that was weird. It's definitively not something important that the game needs, but it could be nice.

Like I said, I hate not recommending this, because there's just so much potential for this game. I wish I could see it thrive. I hope you guys can continue working on this game, or, if not, make other games with even more quality.

i like touhou and vampire survivors

What a pleasant surprise this fan-made Touhou-based bullet heaven has been. In fact, it's a mixture between the bullet heaven progression of titles like Vampire Survivors, the bullet hell chaos of enemies spamming projectiles towards the player, all within a free-roam sidescroller shmup gameplay loop. With a very unique upgrade system where the player tries to maximize the level and effect of each perk and weapon by strategically placing them close to each other on a hexagonal grid, the tactical options are surprisingly many. The actual gameplay is not currently all that varied, and the enemy variety definitely needs a boost in the future, but Touhou Library Survivors is polished, fun, and definitely one of the most unique bullet heaven titles out there.

It's got danmakus and a cool upgrade system and you play as patchouli knowledge

The building your own power system is well made and has you open to hundreds of set ups, overall fun and well made.

This genre never interested me because of the lack of energy variety and repetitive gameplay...

However in this game I'm pleasantly enjoying every game. I'm thinking it's because I'm more active. I'm having to actively dodge, aim, kite, and prepare. Every death as well opens up the opportunity to try out a new spell to start with of the like DOZEN... Beyblade melee? Longer melee? Direct big hit? Homing? Scatter shot? Rain? And so many more options!

It's been a blast to beat and I look forward to my next attempt.

A really fun game worth its price. Charming and fun, with some amount of depth to it. Kinda wish there was maybe more Triggers or perhaps some passive spells/auras, but hopefully the future updates will resolve that. Game kinda lacks content at the moment though.

How I learned to stop worrying and love the garlic

Fun Touhou fan game with a well thought out leveling system. My only complaint is that the game content caps out long before meta progression does since the designs of both the main and extra stage are static. An "endless" mode or more random events and patterns might help squeeze more longevity out of the existing content, or adding other characters outside of EoSD to fight.
